Here’s a local news story from Indiana illustrating one more great reason to consider webcasting your wedding: the unscheduled hospitalization of a family member.
Dwight Owen was planning to attend his daughter Heather’s wedding at Purdue on Saturday, but was hospitalized the Monday before due to two blocked arteries. The doctors told Owen his condition made it too risky for him to travel, so the hospital arranged for him to view the ceremony via an online feed.
He seemed to enjoy the goings-on, though he opined he wasn't going to be made to "bawl like a baby" due to a webcam wedding; "I wish I was there so I could make fun of you," he said to guests and family who were mugging at the camera for his benefit.
Mr. Owen is scheduled to have bypass surgery tomorrow (Tuesday) and his prognosis is good. We send best wishes for his speedy recovery and hope he’ll be fit enough to attend his two sons’ weddings later this year (and hopefully perform a slightly belated father-daughter dance then.)
