Compulsions feeds your inner dark side

This week I want to let you guys in on the dirty little secrets within the series Compulsions. For those of you who might not have heard of this series, I suggest that you finish reading this article and then click on the link at the bottom and enjoy this emotional thriller.

Compulsions is the brainchild of Bernie Su; who is the series writer and creator. Su has the ability to dive into the human psyche and will leave you questioning what is going to happen next while bringing you closer to these characters. It has honestly been awhile since I have been drawn to characters like this. Throughout the eight episodes released thus far, I keep wanting to know what drives these characters to partake in their secret actions within this series.

However, Su’s writing is only half the puzzle into what draws you into the eyes of these characters. The other half belongs to the actors portraying them.Craig Frank’s portrayal of Mark Sandler and Annemarie Pazmino as Cassandra Morrissey are two of biggest parts into why Compulsions is so good along with Su’s writing and Nathan Atkinson’s direction.

Craig Frank’s portrayal of Torturer/office worker Mark Sandler holds this series together. As we are introduced to both sides of his life, one has to wonder how Mark got into either “career” field. Let alone that throughout the series you can tell that Mark basically has little or no emotion within him; making him even harder to understand. I think the voice over quote at the end of the first episode describes Mark perfectly, “My name is Mark and I am a sadist.”

You will also fall in love with Annemarie Pazmino's character Cassandra Morrissey. When you first meet this lovely IT girl you might question yourself as to why a girl this cute is working in IT. Could it be her love for computers and technology or does it have something to do with a little hobby of hers? Let's just say that might think twice before you turn on your computer the next time it comes back from IT. Miss Pazmino  ability to lure you into her world causing you to forget her little hobby and wanting to get to know her more. Just like with Mark you want to know what happened in her life that lead her to this hobby of hers.

One would think that it would be impossible for someone to be intrigued so much by characters in only two and half to six minutes per episode. Su and director Nathan Atkinson have a formula that will have you clicking on the next episode in order to find out what happens next. Only down side is that the first season is eight episodes and Su's ability to write cliffhangers is phenomenal.

The folks behind Compulsions honestly deserve the four Streamy nominations they have received which are Best Drama Web Series, Best Directing for a Drama Web Series – Nathan Atkinson, Best Writing for a Drama Web Series – Bernie Su and Best Male Actor in a Drama Web Series – Craig Frank. After watching all eight episodes you will agree that they are will deserved.

This really is an amazing series. I hope everything comes together soon for production to begin on the next season. It's amazing how just a few minutes can get you so hooked. It makes me curious as to where we might see Craig Frank end up in the future.
