Grab a cup of tea, because we are going to discuss drug theory. I'll start by proposing that Splurb is the new gateway drug to Internet addiction. Pinky up, please.
If one were to make an analogy to the Internet in regard to food nutrition facts, I'd say that the "carbohydrates" are all social networks. For you it may be different, but I love me some bread. So for now, Twitter is carb intake. And for the hell of it, let's just call interesting links that we share "sugar." Now let's throw those together (and leave the diabetics out of it). This tasty concoction becomes an addiction called Splurb, in which the most popular links shared on social network sites are listed categorically and are available for perusing.
What does this mean?
You're bored. You get on the Internet. You go to Splurb. You've just filled three hours of time clicking on the most popular things on the Internet. It's a direct gateway to spending three hours of time clicking on the most popular things on the Internet. Get off the Internet. I'm closing your laptop. No, put your phone away.
It's all just like resisting a doughnut...
