Google Inc. released its first report detailing nationwide economic impact which claims they generated $222 million in economic activity in Kansas in 2009.
Google generated $54 billion in economic activity nationwide in 2009, it said in the report released Tuesday.
The search engine (Nasdaq: GOOG) derived its numbers by examining the number of businesses, Web site publishers and nonprofits using its search and advertising tools, as well as the number of grants it awarded to nonprofits.
Google's report says that 10,400 Kansas advertisers and Web site publishers received about $221.1 million in economic value from Google. For every $1 spent on Google advertising, the company estimates that the average advertiser generates $8 in profits. The $221.1 million total also takes into consideration the funds Web site administrators earned through Google AdSense, which pays Web sites to place Google ads next to their content.
Google has also donated $794,000 to 10 nonprofit organizations in 2009. Some of the grant recipients included Kids and Cars in Leawood, Heartspring in Wichita, Trees for Life in Wichita, and American Foundation for Children with AIDS, Lawrence.
