By now you may have already received confirmation that shipping for the Apple iPad 3G has started. Grand news for those, myself included, that have been waiting to get one’s hands on the model.
What we know about the iPad 3G data plan at present is that there are two options, one $15 per month 250MB plan, and one $30 per month unlimited data plan, both available through Dallas-based AT&T without having to agree to a contract. The lack of a contract requirement is quite possibly the greatest thing about the iPad, a sentiment shared by many.
Today AT&T has released additional details about the data plan which also make the iPad 3G seem even more revolutionary than Apple has previously let on.
The details include:
- Regardless of one’s elected plan, the $15 per month 250MB plan or the $30 per month unlimited data plan, iPad 3G owners will have free access to all of AT&T's Wi-Fi hotspots. Excellent news if you are trying to conserve data on the $15 per month plan, as well as good news for AT&T, who is no doubt concerned about additional strain the iPad 3G may place on their network.
- The iPad 3G will provide you with visual information about how much data you have left each month, going so far as providing alerts when you have 20 percent, 10 percent, and no data left on the $15 per month plan.
- If you run out of data on the $15 per month plan one can add another 250MB of data right from the device itself, or opt for the unlimited plan, which begins a new 30-day cycle of data usage.
One additional item of note is that the data plans automatically renew every 30 days, beginning with your initial purchase of a data plan on the iPad,

I pre-ordered on the 12th of march but i still havent received any shipment confirmation :(

Likewise, no shipment confirmation. I looked at my account and it states "Prepared for Shipment." Since these are being shipped from the U.S., unlike the WiFi models which were shipped straight from China, they may simply be sending them overnight. Check your Apple account though to see the status. I am a dork and have been at least 10 times a day for an update.
I ordered my iPad 3G within the first 3 minutes it was available on the site. Still only says shipping late April. Sure hope it is here Friday! Been an agonizing wait. Get my fix twice a week at Apple Store!

Same here. This will be interesting. Aren't we starting to run out of time? All the other parts on this order shipped directly from China and took about 5 days. : \
since i work with a lot of shippers like ups and fedex, it does seem strange that nothing is showing up as far as tracking or credit card transactions. I bet one of these had to bid for the shipping contract which is why apple can afford to basically overnight the thing. Otherwise, Apple could have saved millions of possible shipping dollars by shipping 2 or 3 day delivery.
I'm in the same boat. No shipment notification yet.
Putting in my order number at the Apple store I see that my order has been "prepared for shipping." I called and asked an Apple rep when my credit card would be charged--and they said as soon as it "ships," and that I would be notified when that occurs. I suspect that will be sometime today, as I also suspect that they are all in the local terminals and will be loaded on the vans overnight.
I am taking off work so it will not be left on my doorstep for the next person putting ads
on my doorknob to discover before I do.
I also pre-ordered on March 12th...same message as everyone else. This wait has really sucked. I must have OCD because I check the status atleast 10-15 times a day. I just want to sleep today so that tomorrow can get here faster!!
