The Apple iPad is available for pre-order and the big question that all want to know, both those that pre-ordered and those that did not, is how many consumers succumbed to the Apple new product hype machine and actually purchased one or two? Full disclosure: I am one of those that couldn’t resist, purchasing two, one Wi-Fi model and one 3g + Wi-Fi model.
CNN estimates Apple received 120,000 pre-orders for the iPad on Friday when one could finally reserve the device either for in store pick up or for delivery on April 3, Wi-Fi version only. with The 3g supported version using service provided by Dallas-based AT&T, is scheduled to be available in late April.
While Apple has not released actual figures, the 120,000 iPads pre-ordered is an estimate, Investor Village's AAPL Sanity board, using sampling, subtracted Apple's typical daily online sales (about 16,500) from its Friday online sales. The sample is small, but it is more than likely accurate, and moreover the additional research the group conducted provides one with a glimpse into which model consumers are opting for most.
The numbers indicate that among the 16gb, 32gb and 64gb models, purchasing appears evenly split, meaning that of the 120,000 estimated to be pre-ordered, each model saw 40,000 units pre-ordered. What is more telling, is the fact that 70% of pre-orders were for the Wi-Fi only model, perhaps due to the late April release of the 3g version, or perhaps because as AT&T indicated weeks ago, consumers, like AT&T, see the iPad as a Wi-Fi driven device. The 30% or so that pre-ordered the 3g version can utilize 3g service over AT&T’s network without signing a contract, at a price of $15 for 250MB or $30 for unlimited data.
Did you pre-order? If not, will you prior to the official release date? Will you get the Wi-Fi only version, or the 3g supported version. Leave your feedback below, submit any questions to us via Formspring, visit our Facebook page, or follow us on Twitter.

I live in the East, and I was at my computer waiting for 8:30 am. I was on the Apple sales Web page at roughly 8:20 and kept refreshing that page every minute or so. At EXACTLY 8:30 the magic buttons appeared and I ordered a 64gig WiFi + 3G, a keyboard, and a cover. Now comes the hard part - the waiting.
I ordered myself the Wifi only version. I really dont see myself paying Att any more of my money. Iphone data plans are ridiculous as it is!
Not needed , very expensive toy . With tax it canes to $1k
I ordered a 32 GB WiFi and a cover.
I ordered my iPad 16GB WiFi only about 4 pm on Friday. I have had all 3 iPhone models and own a MacBook... I love the Apple quality and would not trade it for anything. Oh yeah - I bought 25 shares of Apple stock last Monday. Yippppie...
Bought the 32GB WiFi & 3G at 5:32 AM PST aka 2 mins after they started accepting Pre-orders. I personally have owned all three iPhone Models and currently own a MacBook Pro. Apple is a wonderful company never had a problem that wasn't swiftly resolved. iPad is the perfect fit between my iPhone 3GS and MacBook Pro.
So excited to get mine! Ordered a wifi and a 3G!
Of course, I pre-ordered one! Got myself a 64 gb wifi. Who needs 3G when u already have an iphone? After I added the case, keyboard dock, and Apple Care, I barely managed to keep this small purchase to <$1000, but I can't wait!!!!
I ordered the 64GB WIFI + 3G, a cover and extra power so I have a charger at home and a charger at work. Have all things Apple in my house from iPhone to Macbook Pro to Apple TV. Have been waiting a very long time for this "iPhone on steroids". I think its going to be much more than that and it will change everything - again.
Ordered a 32 GB Wi-Fi with case. Why? This will change all. The hardware is cool, but the real draw is content: books, apps, TV, video...that nobody can provide like Apple. Buy the stock. In two years it will triple in value.
My wife and I ordered a 64Gb WiFi model. We want to use it as a light weight travel computer. I use a desktop PC at home, but since we use iPhones now the iPad will be very easy to use.
I will convert my e ereader to e Pad : ( sorry iPad . . .
Impressive! Apple did it again.
