California's drought picture improves dramatically

The numbers are in and thanks to an unusually rainy April, the state's drought picture is looking much better than the year before.

The figures seen below show much of the Bay Area's reservoirs are close to adequate levels with some lagging reservoirs across far Northern California and near the Sierra.

In the case of some Sierra runoff locations, our abundant late season snowpack should pay dividends heading into the start of Summer.  The final site survey of the Sierra snowpack revealed a snowpack nearly 188% of average in the Northern Sierra and roughly 143% of average statewide.

The size/depth of the Sierra snowpack this late into Spring should be noted by folks who enjoy hiking and camping in the high country as runoff volumes and speeds will likely be much higher than in our recent dry years.
