Enjoying the return to much more stereotypically warm weather across South Texas? Good. Temperatures in the 70s will stick around the next few days with highs near 80 possible this afternoon. For many, this is a much welcomed change.
To sum up how this winter has been in two words: it has been cold and wet. According to tabulations done by the National Weather Service in Austin/San Antonio, February 2010 went down in the record books as the 7th coolest February in recorded history and the six-month period from September 2009 through February 2010 is also the 2nd wettest six-month period on record. I have received many complaints about the cold via e-mail, facebook, and twitter.
Today, another storm system which will develop far to our north will bring a chance of showers and thunderstorms this morning. Most of the thunderstorm activity will occur far to the east in areas like Tyler, Texarkana, and Beaumont where the storms could approach severe limits. Here in San Antonio, I expect generally clearing skies throughout most of the day with high temperatures near 80.
Lows tonight will bottom out in the mid 40s in the city, with cooler temps in the outskirts and Hill Country.
Another storm system will move through on Friday bringing a reinforcing shot of cooler air. This system will also yield low precipitation across South-Central Texas.
Cooler temps with highs in the 50s and 60s could return next week with an approach of a Canadian front.
