For the Triangle westward to the foothills it looks like there is little chance for rain through the next 6 days. However the coastline will see heavy rain from Earl and the mountains will some scattered showers and storms Friday, but everywhere in between looks to stay dry the next 6 days.
Temperatures will be warm today, but very warm tomorrow. The warm air advection ahead of an approaching cold front combined with subsidence on the other side of Earl will create a very warm day across the piedmont with temperatures in the upper 90s to near 100.
The front will slide through Friday night and we will see a pleasant weekend with highs in the mid 80s and lows in the 50s.
The heat will return by Tuesday with highs back into the mid 90s as an upper ridge rebuilds again. In fact if the ECMWF is right we could be flirting with 100 again next week. The overall hot pattern looks to continue well into the middle of September.

Low temperature of 53 forecasted for Courtland, VA tonight. And what's even better is that many trees are rushing into their natural Fall color change here in VA! The hot, dry pattern probably sped it along a little but the trees that are changing now appear very healthy in their new-found Fall color and show no signs of drought stress such as burn spots, dried, brittle leaves, etc. :) An awesome sight to see for early September.
