So this is not directly weather related and the clouds are figurative, but Neil Rogers' retirement should be big news to some considering his extensive time on the radio dial in South Florida... not to mention his status as a legendary radio icon of an era in broadcasting, which is coming to an end (or by many accounts ended long ago). The changes in the broadcast world have been numerous recently with sliced budgets, cheap and ever cheaper less experienced talent (or talentless hacks) taking over the industry, and rapidly changing technology. Young isn't always bad and in Rogers' case old didn't mean outdated nor stale, but his departure is a sign of the times and of more to come. Radio and TV will never be what it once was.
Rogers is a talent unlike any other I've had the honor of listening to on the radio and as he always liked to point out, "the price was right". Free, edgy, informative, hilarious, opinionated, predictable yet unpredictable at times, he always had someone up in arms but always had me not wanting to turn off the radio once I had it on. After over 33 years on South Florida airwaves, Neil Rogers goes silent and possibly for good. He and WQAM part ways, but the possibility is still open for a radio comeback for Rogers, if he so decides. We as listeners can only hope and wish him well. Bye-bye-bye.
