Enhanced Satellite Loop of a tropical depression/storm forming in the Southeastern Bahamas Thursday morning
UPDATE: TROPICAL DEPRESSION 3 FORMS 405 MILES EAST SOUTHEAST OF KEY LARGO, FLORIDA
The National Hurricane Center says it will upgrade a low pressure area in the Southeastern Bahamas to the 3rd Tropical Depression and or the 2nd Tropical Storm (Bonnie) of the season later this morning.
Visible satellite images and observations from the Bahamas indicate that the area of low pressure had become better organized and a closed circulation had formed with the lowest pressure centered between the Islands of Acklins and Great Inagua.
With continued development expected, NHC will issue advisories on a tropical depression or a tropical storm at 11 am EDT this morning with the advisories including Tropical Storm Watches and Warnings for portions of the Bahamas and Southern Florida.
A Hurricane Hunter Reconnaissance Plane out of Keesler Air force Base Biloxi is expected to investigate the system this afternoon to determine the exact intensity and strength of this system.
All coastal residents from South Florida to the Gulf of Mexico should monitor this system very closely as it is expected to continue to move in a westerly to northwesterly direction impacting portions of Southern Florida before moving into the Gulf.
NHC is also monitoring a broad area of low pressure in the Bay of Campeche that continues to show signs of organization.
Environmental conditions are conducive for some development of the low as it moves westward or west- northwestward at 10 to 15 mph.
NHC is giving this system a medium chance (50 percent) of becoming a tropical depression or tropical storm during the next 48 hours, before it moves into Mexico.
