The wet weather pattern continues to unfold and will likely bring several inches of rainfall to the state by this weekend.
According to the Hydrometeorological Prediction Center, which provides outlooks for precipitation through five days across the U.S. is indicating, parts of the state could recieve 4-7 inches of rainfall over the next several days.
The forecasted estimated rainfall totals below have increased since Sunday, when HPC was indicating the state could receive 3-5 inches of rainfall.
The areas targeted with the greatest potential of heavy rainfall are Western and Northern Mississippi. (FLASH FLOOD WATCH ISSUED FOR PORTIONS OF WESTERN MISSISSIPPI)
It is rare to see forecasted rainfall amounts this high outside of a tropical system (tropical depression, tropical storm, hurricane) across the state of Mississippi, this time of year.
If the forecasted or estimated rainfall totals come to past, this will surely put a dent in the drought condtions that have been expanding across the state, or even wipe out the drought conditions altogether.
Portions of Northern Mississippi have already received 1-2 inches of rainfall from a batch of storms that moved across the state on Sunday.

NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE STATEMENT:
PERIODS OF HEAVY RAINFALL WILL DEVELOP OVER THE AREA FROM THE WEST LATE TONIGHT AND SPREAD ACROSS THE AREA TUESDAY.
A STRONG WEATHER DISTURBANCE THAT WILL MOVE INTO THE AREA LATE TONIGHT WILL INTERACT WITH DEEP MOISTURE AND THE UNSTABLE AIRMASS CURRENTLY IN PLACE TO PRODUCE STRONG THUNDERSTORMS THAT WILL HAVE THE POTENTIAL FOR TORRENTIAL RAINFALL.
THERE IS A RISK FOR STRONG THUNDERSTORMS...HEAVY RAIN AND LOCALIZED FLOODING OVER THE ARKLAMISS (Arkansas, Louisiana, and Mississippi) DURING THE PERIOD FROM WEDNESDAY THROUGH FRIDAY.

Even though, there is the slight possibility of a few storms becoming severe over the next few days, heavy rain leading to flash flooding is the main threat.
