High temperatures reached their warmest readings so far this year Friday afternoon with a high of 61 degrees after starting out below freezing for the 15th consecutive morning in the capital city of Mississippi.
The 15 nights and or mornings below freezing is the second longest streak on record in Jackson.
This streak only falls short of the all-time record of 21 consecutive nights and or mornings below freezing in 1940.
| Days | End day/date |
| 21 | 2/3/1940 |
| 15 | 1/15/2010* |
| 15 | 2/21/1958 |
| 15 | 2/12/1906 |
| 14 | 2/15/1968 |
During this 15 night and or morning streak, 14 nights and or mornings featured temperatures below 26 degrees with 5 of those in the teens.
This unusually long streak of freezing temperatures along with a extended period from the evening of January 7 to the late morning hours on January 10 below freezing (a streak of 67 straight hours below freezing) led to over 140 waterline breaks across the capital, forcing a State of Emergency and causing numerous schools, businesses and state government offices to close for nearly a entire week.
With a much warmer and wetter pattern evolving, freezing temperatures are not expected through next week.
