the global warming debate.

Speaking this past Friday at the American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS) annual meeting, former Vice President Al Gore urged scientists to get involved politically to push the anthropogenic global warming (AGW) theory. Touting the need for swift and immediate action to avert what he believes is a climate crisis, Gore urged scientists to use what he feels is a changing political environment to push the agenda of those that believe man is on the brink of destruction.

During his 50 minute presentation, the self-appointed head of the AGW movement spoke to a “rapt” audience describing a scary picture of Earth’s future.  Ice caps melting, droughts in many parts of the world, an “extraordinary” death of trees in our own American west.  He pointed to many recent natural disasters as evidence of manmade climate change such as the floods in Cedar Rapids and wildfires in Greece and Australia.

We've now reached a stage where continuing on our present course would threaten the entirety of human civilization
- Former Vice President Al Gore

The theme of his speech was that of the need to bring renewable energy technologies online immediately.  Painting the coal industry as the villain, he told the audience the industry had invested $500 million to mislead the public on the ability of coal to be a clean fuel and power source.

In closing, the former vice president said:

"We have a full-blown political struggle to communicate the truth.  This is a task for all of us. And those of you who have not been engaged in trying to communicate effectively in your communities—to those who respect you and who understand that you have worked hard to obtain the knowledge and wisdom that you have—this is no time to sit back. This is an historic struggle.

"We as a species must make a decision. How absurd that sounds—it sounds absurd because we've never made a decision as a species and it seems implausible to think that we could. But we've now reached a stage where continuing on our present course would threaten the entirety of human civilization.

"Many of the most distinguished members of your professions, in scientific fields, have been saying now, for a few years, that in their estimation, we could have around a decade within which to make major changes in our direction lest we lose the opportunity to retrieve a climate balance that is favorable for human life and human civilization...

"And the only way that's going to happen is if those of you who are in a position to exercise influence and communicate your understanding of what this is all about make a decision to get involved....

"I'm asking you for help. I believe in my heart that we do have the capacity to make this generation one of those generations that changes the course of humankind. The stakes have never been higher. We have the knowledge, we have the emerging technology, we have new leadership, we have cabinet members and science advisers and NOAA heads and policymakers in all of the important positions who are of you, who are your colleagues...

"If I could I would motivate you to leave this city after this meeting and start getting involved in politics. Keep your day job, but start getting involved in this historic debate. We need you."

There have been climate changes since there has been a climate on this planet. This AGW malarky is for wealth distribution.

The idea of so-called "scientists" voluntarily sitting through an Al Gore rant is frightening. Anyone capable of the slightest hint of rational thought should see Gore for what he is in an instant, and what he is is a shyster. Inventor of the internet, inspiration (with Tipper) for the movie "Love Story", divinity school flunkout,"D" student on the two science courses he took in college, politician, farm laborer (tobacco), carbon trading scheme billionaire, conspicuous consumer of jet fuel, winner of the same Nobel as Yassir Arafat and Jimmy Carter. What a guy. He couldn't explain the Pythagorean Theorem, never mind the "science" behind "Anthropogenic Global Warming". AAAS, you need to purge your rolls. Incidentally, the Earth has cooled for the last eight years.

He sounded downright evangelical! The peer pressure from the 'scientists' not to question the great Gore-Al was thick with CO2 clouds and thoughts ofclimate change research greenbacks.

What an embarassment to the AAAS. The announcement of his planned talk convinced me to stay home. I really wanted to go but as a scientist and educator I feel having him talk at AAAS damages both the objectivity of science and the quality of science education.

Allow Kerry Emanuel of MIT to explain what's really going on:

".. "The evolution of the scientific debate about anthropogenic [man-caused] climate change illustrates both the value of skepticism and the pitfalls of partisanship. .. Scientists are most effective when they provide sound, impartial advice, but their reputation for impartiality is severely compromised by the shocking lack of political diversity among American academics, who suffer from the kind of group-think that develops in cloistered cultures.

"Until this profound and well documented intellectual homogeneity changes, scientists will be suspected of constituting a leftist think tank."

"On the left, an argument emerged urging fellow scientists to deliberately exaggerate their findings so as to galvanize an apathetic public..."

"Conservatives have usually been strong supporters of nuclear power. .. Had it not been for green opposition, the United States today might derive most of its electricity from nuclear power, as does France; thus the environmentalists must accept a large measure of responsibility for today’s most critical environmental problem." ~ Kerry Emanuel - MIT

From what I can determine, the Rev. Houghton is one of the scientists (mentioned by Kerry Emanuel above) who was involved in _ deliberately _ misleading people. He admits it:

The Reverend Sir John Houghton, former head of the UK Meteorological Office, Publisher of Al Gore’s book on GW and Former Co-Chair of the IPCC said:

“Unless we announce disasters, no one will listen."

He then proceeds to do just that:

" .. human induced global warming is a weapon of mass destruction at least as dangerous as chemical, nuclear or biological weapons that kills more people than terrorism.” ~ John Houghton Monday July 28, 2003

    *
James Hansen of NASA is another:

    Hansen has long employed stagecraft
for political gain. On June 23, 1988, he delivered his testimony in an unusually toasty hearing room.

    Why was it so warm?

As then-Sen. Tim Wirth (D., Colo.), told ABC’s Frontline: “We went in the night before and opened all the windows, I will admit, right, so that the air conditioning wasn’t working inside the room . . . it was really hot.” June 27, 2008, 7:00 a.m.

    More first-hand admissions:

"We have to offer up scary scenarios, make simplified, dramatic statements, and make little mention of any doubts we may have. Each of us has to decide what the right balance is between being effective and being honest." ~ Stephen Schneider (leading advocate of the global warming theory) (in interview for Discover magazine, Oct 1989)

    *
[Therefore] "I personally cannot in good faith continue to contribute to a process that I view as both being motivated by pre-conceived agendas and being scientifically unsound. As the IPCC leadership has seen no wrong in Dr. Trenberth's actions and have retained him as a Lead Author for the AR4, I have decided to no longer participate in the IPCC AR4." ~ Sincerely, Chris Landsea

I wonder if he was doing his distorted face routine. His is worse than Bush's.

It's funny how even a seasoned liar like Gore can't deliver his whoppers without pained expressions, nervous ticks, and profuse head sweat. The picture above, along with every other picture of Gore tells the story. He always, ALWAYS has some contorted facial expression. Experts will tell you this is a dead giveaway that someone is telling fat lies. He can doublespeak, backtrack, and invoke 'science', but the FACE doesn't lie.

Gore is a complete fraud. Whatever policies may or may not come about, this country is already ruined, and the proof is the fact that Gore gets audience with anyone...

Some great comments here - thank you all for reading the entry. I particularly find Paul's insight as a member of AAAS himself interesting. His and Lynn's posting highlight how the apparent lack of objectivity by the scientific community actually hurts the cause of those that believe in AGW. When you have 'spokesmen' like Al Gore and James Hansen making their outrageous and ridiculous statements, it diminishes the AGW cause greatly.

Al Bore is desperate. He knows that he can't fool people with his lies, so he tries to convince scientists to do it.

There is an inventor from Wisconsin who invented an all-electric car in the form of a Ford Ranger that was shown at the KARE 11 fair booth at the 2008 Minnesota State Fair.

It is capable of reaching 100 miles per hour in speed, has a range of 300 miles, charges in 10 minutes and is pollution free with only the pollution that is done to make the electricity to charge it.

The inventor of this invention has, to my understanding, approached Ford Motor Company with his invention. The Ford Motor Company, in my estimation, should latch onto this idea, pronto.

My understanding is there are members of Congress who are trying to shoot down this idea of an electric car.

Where is there any common sense in this country?

When are we going to stop listening to this self-important buffoon. Al Gore does not know what he is talking about. He misrepresents the science and the certitude about the science.

Isn't it a criminal act to willfully disguise financial interests that point to ethical conflicts in the policy one is advocating while falsely portraying oneself of operating from the highest of possible purposes.

This shamefulness is surpassed only by the extreme boldness on display by the Left as, like a python, they tighten their death hold on our culture and economy.

Why doesn't the examiner take a closer look at Al Gore's conflicts of interests instead of spouting his rubbish? That would make an interesting story.
