Penn State University is home to the largest meteorology program in the nation. It's something they are proud of. They are also home to Professor Michael Mann, who was exposed for 'tricking data' in CRU documents recently released in what is now known as Climategate. Mann is responsible for developing the famous hockey stick diagram of historical global temperatures used in Al Gore's Inconvenient Truth. This was designed to highlight abrupt warming in the past century that looks like a hockey stick on a timeline. We now know that to not be true... The trick, unfortunately made some aspects of past climate hide extremes to exaggerate any warming in recent years. Here is the e-mail that was sent from Phil Jones at CRU to the authors of the hockey stick. In it, credit is given to Mike for his 'trick' to manipulate data:

I’ve just completed Mike’s Nature trick of adding in the real temps
to each series for the last 20 years (ie from 1981 onwards) amd from
1961 for Keith’s to hide the decline. Mike’s series got the annual
land and marine values while the other two got April-Sept for NH land
N of 20N. The latter two are real for 1999, while the estimate for 1999
for NH combined is +0.44C wrt 61-90. The Global estimate for 1999 with
data through Oct is +0.35C cf. 0.57 for 1998.

Penn State has been overwhelmed with the response from the scientific community. It was left with no other option but investigate. The official Penn State statement:
University Reviewing Recent Reports on Climate Information
Professor Michael Mann is a highly regarded member of the Penn State faculty conducting research on climate change. Professor Mann’s research papers have been published in well respected peer-reviewed scientific journals. In November 2005, Representative Sherwood Boehlert (R-NY) requested that the National Academy of Sciences (NAS) convene a panel of independent experts to investigate Professor Mann’s seminal 1999 reconstruction of the global surface temperature over the past 1,000 years. The resulting 2006 report of the NAS panel (http://www.nap.edu/catalog.php?record_id=11676) concluded that Mann’s results were sound and has been subsequently supported by an array of evidence that includes additional large-scale surface temperature reconstructions.
In recent days a lengthy file of emails has been made public. Some of the questions raised through those emails may have been addressed already by the NAS investigation but others may not have been considered. The University is looking into this matter further, following a well defined policy used in such cases. No public discussion of the matter will occur while the University is reviewing the concerns that have been raised.
My question: What does this say for the integrity of their entire department? It is hard to imagine that Mann was the only person involved in manipulating the data at Penn State. What other faculty, and perhaps even grad students were part of the scheme?

"SCIENTISTS at the University of East Anglia (UEA) have admitted throwing away much of the raw temperature data on which their predictions of global warming are based.
It means that other academics are not able to check basic calculations said to show a long-term rise in temperature over the past 150 years.
The UEA’s Climatic Research Unit (CRU) was forced to reveal the loss following requests for the data under Freedom of Information legislation. "

Bunch of scammers and con artists. They rigged the so-called scientific "consensus" Rigged consensus based upon false data that was substituted for the real data - that they threw away!!! Throw em' all in jail for a long time.
Mann is apparently yet another academic fraud willing to subvert science in order to feed his own sick need for attention.

Penn State Internal Investigation minutes:
INVESTIGATOR: "So.. Professor Mann.. We've been assigned to open up an internal investigation of your research practices regarding climate. We know you're a very busy man and we don't want you to miss your golf game with Al Gore today so we'll keep this as short as possible. Let's cut straight to the chase. Lovely weather we're having today ain't it?"
MANN: "Yes, thank you for understanding my prior commitments and yes, it's lovely weather we're having although a little chilly for my liking."
INVESTIGATOR: "Alright Professor. That about wraps it up. You should hear of the findings of our report in about 24 months or whenever the whole climate tax thing is finally passed. Nice chatting with you."
Note that any investigation of Michael Mann needs to extend to Virginia! He was at University of Virginia up until 2005, about the time of that first investigation...

What ever came of the Kyoto Protocol? It is going on 5 years since it was INSTITUTED INTO LAW for the signatories. FORCE OF LAW! Not just "stated goals". It called for a 5% reduction from 1990 levels by Feb. 2012. Right around the corner.
Have ANY of the signatories met that goal? At what cost?
Before we enter into any other agreement on GW/CC, lets look at the results of the previous experiment in social engineering.
Unfortunately the process of "peer review" has been hijacked by the CRU climate community and redefined to mean "if you are not for us you are against us, and we will be isolate, ignore, and ridicule you." The emails suggest commomplace intimidation and exclusion of any scientist who does not dutifully kneel at the alter of Global Warming and publically confess that it is humans who are causing climate change. This is beyond arrogance and corruption-- this is downright Orwellian. Richard Lindzen- MIT was apparently correct when in 1997 he wrote "In the long run, the replacement of the precise and disciplined language of science by the misleading language of litigation and advocacy may be one of the more important sources of damage to society incurred in the current debate over global warming."
Lies, damned lies, and statistics.
The falsification of data and the conspiracy to commit same etc, constitutes serious criminal activity. Further, the granting of public funds for research warrants a federal investigation. I’m hoping the perpetrators, including possibly Professor Michael Mann, director of Pennsylvania State University’s Earth System Science Centre and a regular contributor to the popular climate science blog Real Climate, and their facilitators will be tracked down and prosecuted to the fullest extent the law allows. -- Michael Santomauro
The CRU emails also expose the sham "inquiry" into "scientist" Wei-Chyung Wang at the University of Albany- even warming scientists could see that he lied.
You should look into this, file a FOI request for their findings, and expose how universities will cover up malfeasance in order to protect their "reputations".
Professor Mann should face jail time for this fiasco on tax payer dollars.
The "internal investigation" will be a whitewash that will clear Mann of everything. Saying Mann is corrupt would stop the gravy train of Global Warming funding that Penn State is recieving.
Dr. Mann has been exonerated.
