Competitive Enterprise Institute (CEI) had their attorneys file three Notices of Intent to File Suit against NASA. Chris Horner, representing CEI, said NASA Goddard Institute for Space Studies failed to comply with the Freedom of Information Act for the past three years. Some Goddard employees were mentioned in the CRU hacked account now known as Climategate. In it, thousands of documents revealed a clear attempt by scientists to manipulate scientific data to make it look like the planet has been getting warmer. There were also discussions of blocking peer reviewed papers showing contrarian proof that the planet has actually been cooling. Britain’s Climate Research Unit, University of East Anglia has been the primary source of information for the IPCC (Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change), the group along with Al Gore that won the Nobel Peace Prize in 2007 for scaring the world into thinking that the planet is warmer than ever due to human activity. This has been disputed by many scientists but most media outlets have ignored contrarian views under the assumption that the science is in and the debate is over. Think again. NASA's reports have been questioned here by both my reports and my predecessor. This began last year, when a report on Sea Ice itself showed that melting has stopped and the ice expanded. The scientists, baffled, tried to come up with an excuse. These questionable tactics were highlighted to much scrutiny. Then last winter, a report of faulty NASA sensors revealed that ice the size of California in the arctic had been shown as missing, but was there the whole time. However the reports on Acrtic ice never reflected the return of the missing section, making it look like less is present.
Why is this story not being mentioned in most news outlets? Several internationally renowned man made Global Warming supporters are involved, including Obama Science Czar John Holdren. As you might expect, Fox news is all over this story, and even the BBC has reported on a thorough investigation. The New York Times did mention this in Andrew Revkin's dotearth Blog , but decided not to post any material that was not meant for the public the see. That never stopped them with the Pentagon Papers. But rather than go down a political road here, my real concern is that this is being ignored by NBC, ABC, and CBS. It is actually followed the requests made in some of these CRU emails to block dissent to Global Warming. Ahh... but that is not the case here. This is the same man who turned off the air conditioning in the Capitol while speaking about Global Warming on a hot day in 1988. I wrote about his exposure of bad data for Russia just this last October. He used September data (a statistically warmer month) in place of cooler October data. This skewed the temperatures upward. The temperature in the United States in 2008 was not much different than the 1951-1980 mean, which makes it cooler than all the previous years this decade.

You know, I always thought science tried to prove itself wrong. Then after exhaustive efforts of trying to disprove your theories you sumbit your work for others to disprove. I guess this is why I believe G.W. is fake. This simple principal has never been followed in regards to G.W.
It is really classy to attack Tony's posting in that manner. You must know him personally. Really shows how people should ignore your post/other alarmists and try acknowledging there are facts that don't point to some groups conclusions.
This is Tony's second article on this topic, but the potential law suit is news that regardless of your belief is news. Tony and Justin Berk did a great job working together on their old radio show bringing in all issues and all sides... even after places like the City Paper used false quotes and doctored images for their agenda.
For those deniers- the emails and documents ARE REAL! Some data was fake and there was an attempted block on scientific papers that disagreed with CRU. That is the story here and if you fight that, you are truly being ignorant!

I'm sure we all want to make the world better pollution wise, but the Cap and Trade and the Copenhagan Agreement don't address pollution, only ways to tax it or to give our hard earned money to other countries.....wake up America!

Last time I looked Al, the US spent nearly 1 trillion dollars invading Iraq, and the US continues to fork over 700 billion a year to mid-east terrorist regimes. BP and Exxon just agreed to pay Iraq 63 billion to rebuild their private profit oil extraction. Military might for private profits?
So instead, we would like to tax this blood-soaked commodity to reduce its usage and reduce the money received by Osama Bin Laden and cohorts.

who cares...folks have been debating global warming for decades. It's climate change due to resource extraction and use, under an ever increasing population....and we are arguing temperature trends. I do believe Gore did an injustice to the real issues of climate change (water, food, resource availability, eco diversity, et) by spinning the issue to be only temperature effects.

You don't have to worry??. Regardless of cause,when melt-water runs out (that's real soon folks), but we don't actually know the hour or the day) mass migration will hit. Couple that with rising sea levels, because atmospheric CO2 is increasing, (yet more mass migration) and your gonna have plenty to worry about.

I will state this again: I am ALL FOR THE GREEN MOVEMENT! We should have been doing this along time ago...nobody is against cleaning up the atmosphere and finding alternative fuel sources. There are a million different reasons for doing these things. However, I do not support the science behind the global warming theory, and I do not think we should pass environmental laws based on fear.

People, please... All this bickering and the point here is that the data was not legitimate. For those of you who keep thinking and spouting that greenhouse gas emissions are causing temps to rise, read this again. The main research group who has been telling us this was wrong. They lied to cover themselves. They could not understand why it was getting cooler and the falsified numbers to fit their cause. That is the smoking gun. Plain and simple. They were lying and there has to be other reasons to explain the warm up that did occur. Why did CRU and many others ignore the sun? Why was the influence of the major El Nino in the 90s minimize? Either way, stop regurgitating the false claims from the false scientists. A true scientist would reevaluate their theory and change the hypothesis when the results don't fit. Unfortunately that was not the case with CRU and the IPCC.
So Al and Tony say they don't support the science behind the hypothesis of global warming. Are these the scientific parts you have a problem with?

3. Albedo or reflectivity impact solar absorption.
4. Deforestation decreases carbon sequestration.
5. Saltwater density drive ocean currents.
6. Black carbon absorbs heat.
7. Aerosol pollution creates smaller raindrops changing rainfall patterns.
I could go on for a while.
Please just tell me which of these principles you have a problem with.
Mr. GW Theory- How about the basic principal of a fluid system. Feedback mechanisms. Does a warm up that melts ice lead to less ice, or cooler water which in turn shifts ocean currents and leads to a general cool down... and many other potential feedbacks. How about the influence of the sun more than anything else. Sunspot cycle on hyperdrive, then almost dormant. Also, the premise of greenhouse trapping gas.... the concentration is measured in parts per billion. Perhaps the heat trapping ability is not as much as it is credited. Methane and water vapor trap much more heat than the accused CO2. That is a flaw in the promotion from Gore and friends. I could go on and on. But seriously, did you actually read the story and the main point? The CRU lied about the data. It was not warming the way they thought, and actually cooling. So all of your blipidy blip is for naught. Why defend a flawed theory, or are you just going down with the ship. I hear the band playing......

Hmm, you say that melting ice might spread out the cooling. The ice extent although wider this year than last, was the same thing. Less volume of ice spread thinner over a larger area.

The 11 year sunspot cycle has shown increased activity since the spots on November 2nd. It appears, as other Weather Examiners point out, that the sunspots are on their return.
But this really changes nothing. The poles are warmer, the Eskimos say so. I could care less about some group affiliated with a particular college or particular report.
Methane and water vapour are also primary effluence of automobile and human garbage dumps.
That is why methane and water vapour need to be captured. Powerplants now exist to covert the methane from dumps into electricity.
But how do you capture an ocean of methane from the decomposing rot caused by the fertilizer and human waste runoff from Kansas and Indiana corn farms?

In my opinion, this is simply a case of trying to hold on to a busted forecast as long as possible. For example, if I'm forecasting 10" of snow for the next day, and I start to see model trends and observations that point to a miss...is it in the viewers best interest to hold on to a bad forecast just so I don't have to admit that I'm wrong? Of course not. Is the amout of CO2 in the atmosphere high...yes! Is the warming that was forecasted taking place...no! To me, the amout of CO2 is just showing that we are polluting the heck out of the atmosphere, and we need to stop.
Currently Speaking: The Eskimos live in Alaska, that does not cover the entire arctic circle.... and check the true data. Antarctica and the South Pole have been getting colder. That is fact!
I enjoy the lively banter back and forth between the factions, but I use a much simpler method for determining climate change, it is a simple device called a thermometer.
For the last 2 years we have had much colder winters here in Michigan, last summer was one of the coolest in decades. So possibly we have warming in some areas of the earth and cooling in others, I don't know.
All I do know is that where I live there were glaciers some 90 feet thick that formed the Great lakes and the multitude of inland lakes. The global warming that caused them to melt wasn't caused by humans as I don't think there were many around back then, their definitely wasn't any cars or aerosols.
Anyone who is egotistical enough to believe that man (just another animal on the planet) could possibly affect something God created is incredible.

Consider - The emails were not a result of a hacker's activity. They were also not going to be produced under a FOIA request.
Rather, they are the residual emails comprising those which had already been *sanitized* from the CRU systems to illegally prepare an incomplete response for a future (likely successful) FOIA request.
Note that there is a very small percentage of personal chatter that typically make up close colleagues' communication. Therefore, it points to a previous culling.
Theory: These are deleted emails from a sanitized batch which were foolishly or purposely archived and/or discovered by an insider (perhaps the sanitizer himself). The insider then had pangs of conscience or an axe to grind and released them surreptitiously.

Oh, I live in Michigan too, whoever brought that up earlier. Apparently in the intelligent part of the state where we recognize the most basic of concepts: Weather IS NOT "climate change". It could be below 0 all winter, that has no bearing on the damages our pollutants are causing the ecosystem.
Thing is, why fight so hard to defend the status quo? Even without climate change, out pollutants have caused mass extinctions and make millions sick, killing thousands each year in the name of letting a multi-billion dollar company make another 500 million. Doesn't your soul have guilt- or are you fine letting us continue to treat nature like crap?

As a geologist (BS and MS, BYU) I can guarantee another Ice Age. They happen every 110,000 years or so and last about 100,000 years--they are interspersed with a 10,000-yr Interglacial Period; we've been in the current one about 10,500 years by the shortest account while some say it's been over 12,000 years. This means we're due for the next Ice Age. It could happen in 10 years, or 100, or 1000, but it WILL happen. Why? It has to do with the earth's orbit, wobble and spin--when a certain repeatable combination of these is realized, snow quits melting around the North Pole, builds up heading south, and accumulates to a thickness of one to two miles deep. The ice sheet goes as far south as Chicago and Long Island. Overall the earth doesn't cool down, but temperature gradients increase: The poles get colder and the equatorial areas get hotter. This tends to evaporate more water from the oceans and piles more snow, which turns to ice, on the far northern/southern latitudes. Pertu
Perturbations in the weather is typical just before the next Ice Age, and the historical record indicates that the climate goes from Interglacial to full-blown Glacial in just a few years! It's a fascinating subject and far more disruptive to earth's population than any global warming caused by anthropogenic factors.
PS: We need to establish the truth about Climate Change from credible Scientists' stop these Climate Summits before we’re all Carbon taxed to death and acquire some UN and Elitist arrests! In plain terms, Liberal scientist and politicians are liars and criminals out to mass market a lie in order to profit from it. Thats how they get government grants to look for a fix to a problem that dosen't exist. We the tax payers get taxed to death for nothing while they get rich. In the end we will all be covered in ice anyway when the next ice age cycle begins. I would like to round them all up and detain them on the artic ice pack so that they can learn from first hand experience just how warm the earth is getting. They can have solar heat as well, i'll stick with oil.
