September 11th, 2001. A day that we will never forget. A day that will be forever etched in our hearts and minds as a day that changed our country forever. A day that changed the way we view the world and how we go about our daily activities. A day that the weather forecast was the last thing on our minds in the midst of a national tragedy.

But what was the weather like on September 11th, 2001? Well in fact it was an absolutely beautiful late summer day across the northeast United States. A day of sunny and clear skies and comfortable temperatures that so quickly changed to a day of dust, debris, darkness, and desolation in lower Manhattan, at the Pentagon, and in a field in western Pennsylvania. A cold front had just moved off the east coast of the United States, ushering in a clear and comfortable air mass, and also pushing Hurricane Erin out to sea and away from the coastline.

What if the weather were different? What if there was a storm system over the northeast creating flight delays? What if there were clouds or fog obstructing the view of the World Trade Center? What if it was windy? If the weather were not "perfect," would things have been different?

One must also say that all these what ifs do not change the past or what happened on that tragic day, but begs the question, was the weather in the favor of the terrorists on September 11th?

We will never forget September 11th, 2001. God Bless America.
