Thanks to the black and white cops who were not afraid to defend Sgt. James Crowley against accusations of "racist", a catalyst may have taken place in the use of the word. And because of this, Obama may be left hanging by his own petard. In other words, because of his hasty response to the Crowley/Gates scenario, it has brought the discussion of racism to the forefront of American politics.
The "racist" label has been used for too long to excuse bad behavior. For example, if a commentator refers to crime in America and notes that as reported in 2007, in New York City, 24 percent of population was black but 68 percent of all murders, rapes, robberies, and assaults were committed by them. No one dared mention that 13 times more violent crimes are more likely to have a black rather than a white perpetrator.
Statistics show that nearly half of the murder victims in the United States are black and in nine of ten cases, it is a black hand that pulled the trigger of the gun.
Most black residents are law-abiding citizens and do not align themselves with the Political Elite who use the "race card" to excuse crime or makes excuses for criminal activity. Black communities all across the U.S. are dealing with the same reality and many of them are trying to do something about it.
"CeaseFire" in Chicago is one group that is making an effort to intervene in conflicts and promote alternative solutions to violence. "Vision Regeneration" in Dallas focuses on violence prevention, gang intervention and youth rehabilitation.

In spite of the efforts of these and other organizations efforts to help black communities deal with the crime problem, black leaders such as Rev. Al Sharpton use the racist label anytime the crime statistics are brought out into the open.

Crime is crime, no matter whether it is perpetrated by whites or blacks, and the day when the "racist" label can be used to excuse one race or the other underestimates the intelligence of the American public.

Although I disagree with his policies and the direction he is taking our country, I was proud the day he inaugurated. It was in my life-time that a Black American and a women ran for the highest office in the land. It was in my life-time that the first Black American was elected into the Presidency. I wondered at the time if our country had had the dialogue about race relations that needed to have taken place for us to be racially mature to handle this great thing without diatribes from racists taking place if/when things went sour.
Mr. Gates used bad judgement and I admire and commend the police officers who stood by his side, who happened to be Black Americans. I felt at that moment maybe people who engaged in race baiting had lost their power to make incendiary statements.

Glad to see most people are finally waking up. Not just about disproportional black crime but the race game/sham in general. Violent black crime is out of control and the people who consistently make excuses for it are nothing but enablers and nation destroyers.
