Seeking ways to pay for the health care program, which is said to cost $1.5 trillion over ten years, Congress is looking at taxing beer, wine and hard liquor. It could be a way to tax bad behavior while slipping in taxes that the public might not notice.
The temptation to tax booze is there because between junk food and alcohol is said that $600 billion in taxes could be collected over a 10 year period.
The booze tax is among a number of ideas to help pay for the tremendous cost of the health care program. So far, taxing company health benefits and health savings accounts have been considered. Capping deductions on charitable donations was discussed but that was shot down when President Obama proposed it in his budget.
It appears that finding money to create the health programs that the Democrats and Obama want is a lot harder to come by and once the word leaked out that the cost would run into trillions of dollars, more scrambling is going on to try to pay for it.

Martha ...
If there is one thing you can say about Democrats it is that they love taxes. Taxing the people for any reason, it's what they do.
