At a time when thousands of homes are sitting empty because of foreclosures and abandonment, under Obama and the Democrats cap and trade (tax) bill, Americans wishing to sell their homes must retrofit them first before trying to sell them. They would be required to meet "green guidelines" in order to put their homes on the market if the bill becomes law.
As part of the 1,400-page legislation, a new federal policy requires that residential, commercial, and government buildings have to be retrofitted to increase energy before they can be sold.
The bill reads, "The Administration shall develop and implement, in consultation with the Secretary of Energy, standards for a national energy and environmental building retrofit policy for single family and multi-family residences. It will be up to the states to make sure the government's plans are carried out.
The program would involve a system of certified auditors, inspectors, and raters who will inspect homes and businesses using devices such as infrared cameras. They would examine things like water usuage, infrared photography, and pressurized testing to determine the efficiency of door and window seals, and indoor air quality.
The government may provide loans up to 50 percent of the costs and the homeowner would have to pay the other 50 percent. So if it costs $10,000 to retrofit a home, the government will loan the homeowner $5,000 and the other $5,000 would be pad by the owner of the residence.
Comment: With thousands of foreclosed, unsold homes deteriorating across the United States, the Obama and Congress will add thousand more as people abandon homes because they cannot afford to "green retrofit" them before trying to sell. In the midst of the world recession, edging toward a depression, the Democrats have placed another burden on the middle class Americans.

This is an illegal power grab. The US Constitution limits the Federal government to 18 ENUMERATED POWERS. Telling me what I have to do to my home before I sell it is not one of them.
This administration must be stopped, by force if necessary. Obama is an illegitimate President.
obama has never ran anything in his life. obama was a professional community organizer = professional agitator. A bunch of blinded sheeple have elected a man who is out to undermine our freedoms as quickly as possible.
This is a great idea. We need to become energy independent. There are some homes out there in the US that are drains of energy. Make them fix it, I say!
Right on, Obama! <3
Oh, goody! Make it tougher for some porr family to sell. The burden then falls to the banks when the family walks. We can expect more and more of heavy-handed government from the gestapobamunists. Lingo, I hope you never have to sell. We could achieve energy independence by allowing the proven concept of capitalism to work, allowing drilling and exploration and letting the private sector lead us out of energy dependence. Heavily taxing the citizens benefits no one. Our tax burden will be too great to bear for the next few generations.
Lingo probably lives at home with mommy or section 8 housing, as do many Obama supporters.:)
Pelosi is just livid because she wsa served with a notice on Monday. Accused of being a traitor amongst other things
He will protect us we just need to provide food and other services and pay him too. How can he do that? He has a gift? Is it contageous? Do trees fall on houses??? Only if the house is retrofitted with a straw roof.
I bet Lingo has never owned a home.

Word of the week! Congrats
This article has no truth to it whatsoever. Nothing in the Waxman-Markey bill would make any such requirement. It is a fictional horror story attempting to scare Americans and poison the political dialogue so we cannot deal with a serious national concern.
Please clarify whose Congressional Staff is reporting this? Democrats? Republicans? Or is it just someone pretending to be an official site?
