Washington State University sports information director Bill Stevens announced the schedule for fall practice for Cougar football on Wednesday.

That is great news for Cougar football fans everywhere.

Aside from making it easier to mark your calendar to view workouts at Rogers Field on the Pullman campus, this announces something near and dear to the hearts of Cougar football fans.

We are that much closer to the start of another season of Cougar football.

WSU rookies are scheduled to report on campus this coming Friday, August 7th. Freshman will be trickling into town this week in preparation for team workouts.

Coach Paul Wulff and his staff expect 26 first year freshman to be on board by the end of the week.

Returning student/athletes are slated to report the following day, Saturday, August 8th. The veterans represent the majority of the projected roster with a total of 88 expected.

Included in the 88 players returning are 18 red shirt freshmen.

Of the 20 sophomores on the WSU roster, six saw playing time as true freshmen last season.

The players bringing the most experience to the team this year are the 32 juniors and 18 seniors.

Coaches and players alike are anxious to get on the practice field and begin the work necessary to compete in the Pac-10.

Practice sessions will begin on Sunday, August 9th. The first two days of fall camp will be helmets only sessions. First chance to practice with shoulder pads will be the third session on Tuesday, August 9th.

Coach Wulff will split the team up into two groups, crimson and gray, the following day, Wednesday. The split-squad facilitates assigning players to the morning session beginning at 9am and the afternoon session which begins at 2:30pm.

Once Thursday rolls around, the rest of the practice schedule will be in full pads. From that point forward, let the full speed blocking and knocking begin.

That's right, when Friday rolls around Coach Wulff and his staff will be running a two-a-day sessions for three scheduled practices. There will be a scrimmage on Saturday, August 15th breaking things up a little bit for both coaches and players.

We're just days away from Cougar football fall practice to prepare for the season opener at home against the Stanford Cardinal and the challenging schedule that follows.
