The Washington Huskies announced the hiring of defensive backs coach Keith Heyward on Wednesday.
Heyward had worked as the secondary coach at his alma mater, Oregon State, for the previous four seasons.
In a release from the University of Washington, Washington Head Coach Steve Sarkisian had high praise for Heyward.
“Keith is a bright, young coach and a terrific recruiter,” Sarkisian said. "I think he'll be a great fit with our new defensive staff, in particular Justin Wilcox, our new coordinator."
With the February first national signing day quickly approaching, the Huskies are trying to fill holes on their coaching staff. Heyward recruits the Southern California region, and after losing Coach Demetrice Martin to UCLA, the Huskies needed someone to recruit that region.
The Huskies now have eight full-time assistants on their staff; one under the maximum number of nine coaches.
