SALT LAKE CITY -- The Washington Huskies picked up a big albeit ugly 57-53 win over the Utah Utes on Saturday afternoon, salvaging a split of their trip to Colorado and Utah.
Terrence Ross led the Huskies with 14 points and Desmond Simmons added six points and a game-high 10 rebounds.
In a game that featured almost as many fouls (37) as field goals (40), the Huskies nearly gave away another road game. Leading by eight with 42 seconds remaining, the Huskies missed the front end of three straight one-and-ones, allowing the Utes to cut Washington's lead to 55-53 with 12 seconds remaining. But Ross knocked down a pair of free throws and the Huskies escaped with their first road win of the season.
Abdul Gaddy scored seven points and had a game-high six assists, but C.J. Wilcox had an off night in his return to Utah, making just 2-of-13 field goals en route to five points.
The Huskies return home to host Seattle University on Tuesday night.
