The Washington Huskies used some stingy defense to help pick up a big 60-54 road win over Arizona State on Thursday night.
Tony Wroten led the Huskies with 22 points and Terrence Ross added 12 points and seven rebounds as the Huskies improved to 2-5 on the road.
After a tight first half, the Dawgs came out of the break and held Arizona State without a field goal for the first six minutes of the half. By the time the Sun Devils scored, Washington had built an 11 point lead, and Arizona State could never quite recover.
The Sun Devils cut Washington’s lead to four points twice, but the Huskies hit their free throws down the stretch. Despite shooting just 61.3% from the foul line, the Huskies made 10-of-13 foul shots inside the final three minutes to hold off the Sun Devils.
Washington shot 41.7% from the floor and limited the Sun Devils to just 37.3% shooting from the field.
Washington improved to 13-7 and 6-2 in conference play. The Huskies travel to Tucson to play Arizona on Saturday night.
