It will be 39 years since the first Earth Day was celebrated across the United States. Since the first of the day of environmental awareness, on April 22, 1970, Earth Day has grown from one nation’s efforts to now being a worldwide project to protect the globe’s environment.

The Walt Disney Company has always been a leader in environmental awareness and protection. Including the recent announcement that they plan to be greener than they already have been. So why not learn from the best this Earth Day by attending some of the events available for guests visiting the Walt Disney World Resorts.

From now through May 31st you can learn from the professionals with green thumbs and the magic to grow beautiful gardens at the 16th Annual International Flower and Garden Festival. Exhibits will show you how to grow a green garden, reduce water consumption and other environmentally sound projects. You will also have a chance to get an up close and personal look at some creepy critters with the presentation “I Dig Bugs – Bugs are cool.”

Disney’s Animal Kingdom Theme Park will be hosting “Party for the Planet” from 9 a.m. until 3 p.m. on Earth Day. Guests will be able to participate in a variety of conservation activities on April 22. Do not forget to visit Gitar Dan at Camp Minnie-Mickey and see what Earth Day message he has this year.

If you are staying at a Walt Disney World Resort you can view “Safety Smart Goes Green” starring Timon and Pumbaa on Channel 36 in your guest room.

There will be an Earth Day Celebration in the Magic Kingdom’s Rose Garden area, where guests will be able to get their picture taken with Jiminy Cricket. This celebration will take place on April 22 from 10 a.m. until 3 p.m.

A variety of Earth Day activities for children at Downtown Disney next to Disney’s Pin Traders on April 22. Activities include “Worms in Dirt,” butterfly releases, chalk drawings and much more.

Check with any Disney Cast Member for additional activities this Earth Day.
