Hands on DC is an all-volunteer, nonprofit organization that organizes projects to improve the physical condition of Washington, DC public schools. Their largest event is an annual spring Work-a-Thon in which they engage over 2,000 volunteers in over 30 DC public schools. They also raise funds to support local college scholarship programs and encourage greater community involvement in the public schools. Hands on DC is volunteer-founded and volunteer-led; they have NO paid staff.
This year's Work-a-Thon will take place on May 15, 2010, and as of today, registration is open! By going here, you can create your own team, sponsor a volunteer, or make a general donation.
Hands on DC will be hosting a happy hour tomorrow at The Greene Turtle located in Chinatown. Be sure to stop by because a percentage of all sales for February 2nd will support its annual Work-a-Thon! That's right... you can stop by for lunch with co-workers and dinner with friends knowing your money will be going back to a great cause!
