Oregon State Police troopers are investigating a fatal Friday afternoon traffic crash that resulted in the death of two men and serious injuries to two others on Highway 97 north of Chiloquin. Police say the victims' names are withheld pending next of kin notification.
OSP Sergeant Mark Crisp stated in a news release, that a Ford sport utility vehicle driven by Gary Couch of Redmond, was northbound on Highway 97 near milepost 226 at approximately 12:45 p.m when it attempted to pass a commercial truck.
"As the Ford pulled out to pass it did so in the path of a southbound motorcycle with two male occupants. The Ford crashed into the motorcycle head-on killing both motorcycle occupants."
Crisp says Couch and his passenger were transported to Sky Lakes Hospital in Klamath Falls with serious injuries. It was not clear if they were wearing safety belts.
OSP troopers from the Gilchrist and Klamath Falls offices are conducting the investigation. Klamath County Sheriff Office, ODOT and Chiloquin Fire Department assisted at the scene. Highway 97 was closed for about three and a half hours while the investigation was completed.
