You people are so stupid....Beck isn't saying the fire department shouldn't put it out...he's saying that it's stupid to only put out the people's houses who pay the $75. Take your political agenda's out of your ears and pay attention to what he is saying. If the guy wants to hire his own private fire department then fine let me try to figure it out. Besides this is satire, every city would send you a bill afterwards anyway!
You should not have to pay $75 for a fire department to help you. THAT"S WHAT TAXES ARE FOR!!!! GOVERNMENT SERVICES!!! You get billed afterward to settle the offset cost of the services and equipment required. This is just sick. Where is everyone tax money going??

Those so-called "fire fighters" should be watching this video from a prison cell. Can you picture them --- responding to the fire and because the homeowner wasn't on their list of customers, sitting at the curb, on their fire truck --- and watching this house burn !!!

Unfortunately you live in a dream world. These "so-called" fire fighters were doing exactly what they were told to do, as relegated from their superiors, as passed down from the department, as part of the law. It sucks, and every single one of them there knew it sucked. But if one of them disobeyed and went in, they're looking at losing their job, they're looking at a lawsuit, and they're not about to throw away their lives for some guy's cat.
To reiterate, I agree with your ideal, but don't blame the foot soldiers for the General's mistake. Real life isn't Rescue Me, and any guy that disobeyed orders and fought that fire would be facing some harsh, if unjust, punishment because of it.

It's not a matter of patriotic practices to save another's house. I will save my house or pay someone to save it for me because it is mine. If i choose to save your house then so be it. It however is not my responsibility to save your house, it would be yours. So unless you have a big hose pay the 75.

Let's be clear: This was a guy who was not willing to pay for government services. Does that sound like a conservative or a liberal to you? I'm from TEnnessee and Tennessee is full of these idiots who don't want to pay more taxes. It's why there is no state income tax, a huge budget mess and TN has some of the worst services for it's citizens in the country.
I'm from tennessee and we're not a bunch of hicks as you would like to think. People that run their ignorant mouths like that are the reason we don't want a bunch of yankee liberals running this country. When you live in a poor rural county the government can't collect enough money for everything. Would you fund schools or the fire department if you had to choose? And by the way TN is a great state; best roads in the country(voted on by truckers and AAA), we don't live in concrete jungles, the people are friendly, we don't have an income tax, we're allowed to rid the world of parasitic citizens that invade our homes, and best of all we don't have to listen to dumb liberals who don't realize that we can't help others if we can't even help ourselves.
Why is this concept so difficult for people to grasp? It's "insurance". It's how the system works. If you don't have to pay for it and can still have the insurance -- then what's the incentive to pay for it?
Yeah, it's a hard lesson to learn and a hard way to learn it, but apparently people still DO need to learn it. "You have to pay for insurance for it to work."
I think people are used to the fact that they have to pay taxes for fire service. In these Rural areas such as this person that had his house burn down, there is not alot of cashflow or many people in the county. The city/county cannot afford to pay fire fighters to do this and be running around around putting out everyones fires. Thus the 75$ fee was born or the optional TAX. Besides it's not like this was a Electrical fire, or a boiler accident. These people were burning garbage RIGHT NEXT TO THE HOUSE.
for an example. You don't drive your car on the road, get in an accident, then expect the insurance company to pay for it to be fixed if you just pay one of the fees on the spot. And to the person above me that said the remark about being patriotic: Why don't you give this man your money so he can fix his house back up. That would be the charitable thing to do. O wait you won't.
Let's see, so by your standards it is OK for the fire department to stand there looking at a man who's life is being destroyed, all the while you have the power to save it but won't because he didn't pay you? Would you also let someone's baby drown in a lake unless the mother paid you 100 bucks to save it?

Amen. I cannot believe that this happened here in the great state of TN. I don't understand because I live in rural TN, and we have a very strong volunteer Fire Department. Do you know how they get money? They take donations, the sell fireworks at New Years and 4th of July. All of these guys have other jobs, and they do this as a service to our community. I would NEVER sit by and watch someone's house burned because they didn't pay a stupid fee. I am as conservative as they come, but this is over the top.
You know what? If I paid the $75 and my neighbor's house caught fire, I'd be fine with my non-paying neighbor "sponging" off of my $75. Seriously. Save my neighbor's house, and the rest of the neighborhood will absorb the cost. These are tough times. We need to cover each other when we can. Beck's argument is stupid - 99.9-percent of the block is going to pay the $75. Maybe one house is going to have a fire in 25 years - maybe...I personally have never experienced a house fire, nor have I known anyone whose house has burned down. Therefore, since it seems to be a minority who are unfortunate to have their house burn, it should be put out and the dollars and cents hashed out after the fact. Seriously, the fire department is going to operate on the fees paid by the majority of homeowners - if one fails to pay for whatever reason, my bet is that the neighbors are willing to allow them to "sponge" off their fees. If not for humanitarian reasons (hey Beck - look up humanitarian, you dumbass) then because a burned out house is a deeply disturbing thing to have in one's neighborhood. No one wants this. This is an idiotic argument.

There is a very simple more humane solution.
If you haven't paid the $75 fee, the fireman save your house, but you then have to pay the $75 fee plus a $400 fine. or if you don't think that's enough motivation then the owner who hasn't paid the $75 annual on time has to pay the actual estimated costs for the fireman for that day when they put out your fire. A) the fire gets put out and so does not endanger the rest of the community B) the pets, children, belongings etc. are saved C) there is a strong motivation for everyone to pay the $75 annual fee. The costs of putting out the fire in low-income area could cause them to lose ownership of the house but at least you wouldn't have the inhumane spectacle of fireman sitting there letting the home burn and with whatever they own, and pets dying that could have been saved. It's not the animals fault the home owner didn't pay.
Is not the possibility of losing your home because of the financial bill after the fact enough motivation? That's bad but means the fireman are no longer put in the middle of this, they get a call to save a house, they go and save it, no hesitation. It's only after that the bean counters check and see either A) yup they paid the $75 fee or B) No they didn't pay the fee, here comes a whopping bill that may mean you have to sell the house. At least you have something to sell. Fire department gets funded but isn't in the business of enforcing payment in this most brutal way they did in Tennessee.

Social Services are not a bad thing at all. Think of Social Security, that's a socialist aspect of this republic. Socialist aspects are not bad, with tax increases directed towards the right yearly income, many many social problems could be solved.
You can't have it both ways, Beck said the cost to save this mans house was to pay his share of the bill, so its affordable to everyone. But in the same breath says health care is only for those that can afford it. We shouldn't charge everyone a little so everyone will benefit?
So if it's best to pay for fire protection at the beginning of the year, why not pay a health insurance fee, like the current plan, once a year, and be covered for the year? He makes the case for the Democrats plan. Good job, Glen. Also, in defending the pay for fire protection system in TN, he rolls back society about 100 years. Nice going, TN. I keep saying Republicans are making America a 3rd world country- this proves it.

Yep GB isn't too bright. He's inadvertently made the case for universal healthcare that allows ALL it's citizens to pay a little amount. Collectively there will then be enough money to cover every citizen.
Compassion for your fellow man is the only thing that separates us from the animals. It doesn't matter what the reason was for him not paying the $75, this was his house. By agreeing with it you are saying somebody's house and belongings was only worth $wn 75 and fuck him, it's his own fault. It is, but our human reaction to this is our responsibility and though those fireman were obeying orders, I wish they had shown the courage of their brethren ON 9/11 and stood up to be counted and dealt with their superiors later. I'm sure if it had gotten in the press that their managers decided to discipline them for being good fireman as well as human beings, they wouldn't be in trouble for long.
The right wing health care system factually states that there is a price on a persons life. You could be a great human being, helping out your community but if you don't earn enough money, you are worthless in the eye's of your fellow countrymen. We are smarter than allowing a survival of the fittest attitude to win (aka survival of the richest) through and we have evolved more than that.
