EA overcharges Warhammer Online players by absurd amounts

Earlier today, Joystiq.com reported that some players of Warhammer Online had EA go on a massively epic raid of their bank accounts, in some cases charging the monthly fee enough times to pay for their subscription for the next two years. This, of course, has players of the game lighting Mythic's forums on fire with their discontent.

"My account was chargeed [sic] 22 times at 14.99 that is a total of 329.78 not including overdrafts." one user said, while another had a different, albeit completely understandable reason to be frustrated with EA: "they've pretty much got till the end of the day to figure this out or my very pissed off wife will be 'managing' my account for me."

Some players were charged multiple times both yesterday and today, while some, who had their account linked to their bank account, are now forced to wade through a mess of overdraft charges.

Apparently, EA has sent out an email to at least some of the overcharged players, saying that they should see a reversal of the charges within 24-36 hours, and instructs them to ask their bank to remove the overdraft charges. Some players report success in getting their banks to refund the overdraft fees, while others are saying that their banks won't reimburse overdraft fees, no matter what the reason for them may be.

In any case, it seems that today is going to be a frustrating day for some players of Warhammer Online, and probably an even more more stressful one for EA's financial support department.

Has EA looted your bank account dry? Comment below and let us know.

I hope Games Workshop (The creators of Warhammer) sees this as a miss-management of their license and yanks it.

@everyone: I've heard that this isn't the first time that this kind of overcharge has happened. I don't play Warhammer but have friends that do/did. Is this the only time you guys have had this happen to you?

I was charged 22 times for a 3 month subs per charge by EA. My bank charged me fees for that. On 3/16/10 21 of the 22 charges were refunded, after multiple calls to EA and my bank. The bank fees were refunded only after another call to them. I also had did a 3 month subs on 3/18/10 that was supposed to go to 6/18/10. But the EA girl (Toni) said that there was a billing error in march and she seemed to think that the last of the 22 overcharges was justified. I'm currently disputing that. Worse, the 'cancel' button on the EA/Mythic account management page is not visible. WTH
