PSN to get "new revenue stream from subscription"

During their Media/Investor Conference, Sony hinted that the Playstation Network is getting a new subscription service. You can view the presentation slide containing the information below:

It is unclear what the new revenue stream subscription might be. Could it be similar to Qore, an optional service, or something more akin to Xbox Live Gold, which is a premium service required to play games online for the Xbox 360?

The difference is that this premium service will most likely not be required to play online, people would be up in arms about it if they tried it now.

It could be similar to Gold but there is no way they would use a pay model that required users to pay to play online, otherwise they would lose their key online advantage over the X360

Anyone else notice the non-game software development kit?? That would be HUGE.

it will be 19.99 a month, for like 5 or 6 or a limited number of downloads, and at 4.99 2.99 etc each, they will work out a way to make it interesting/value save $$$ etc...

The subscription model is simple. You pay to access all the games / content while you're a subscriber.

The alternative is to pay a fixed fee to buy a game (i.e. what gamers have now).

"A spokesperson from Sony Computer Entertainment Europe told TechRadar that, although new ways were being sought to offer premium services, the core offering would remain free. "

Luckily this isn't Microshaft... Sony is would be screwed if they charged for online, the average Playstation user is not dumb enough to pay for their internet connection twice like the majority of 360 users.

I always thought a great premium service would be having your save games always save online as well. So If I go to my friends or dads house to play my game on their ps3, It would load everything as though it was my PS3. I'd pay $20 a year for that alone

They won't be charging to play online. Sony and Nintendo aren't that stupid. It'll be another optional subscription.

this will probably be like unlimited PSN games only as long as you keep paying the monthly fee kinda like gamefly. i doubt it be for stuff like add on content. if im right, yea its a far shot, and its priced right i'd go for it
