Infinity Ward describes relationship with Treyarch

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 box art.

Infinity Ward and Treyarch are the two developers behind one of the most popular series in gaming, Call of Duty. Despite that, the two Activision Blizzard development studios are anything but close knit. Robert Bowling, Creative Strategist of Infinity Ward, revealed the relationship between his studio and Treyarch during the latest GameTrailers’ Bonus Round episode:

“The teams are completely separate. And our design schedules and our design philosophies are completely different tracks. It’s not like they might be leapfrogging in terms of franchise but the design state of mind from the teams at Infinity Ward and Treyarch are completely different. We don’t work together, we don’t collaborate.”

He later added, “the teams are very focused on what we’re doing and we really don’t let what happens in another game impact that.”

Infinity Ward’s Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 was released on November 10th for the PC, Playstation 3 and Xbox 360 while Treyarch's Call of Duty: Modern Warfare Reflex Edition (a port of Infinity Ward’s Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare) came out on the same date for the Nintendo Wii.

I think it's sad to see people defending such a trashy developer.

Treyarch should try something new, they keep recycling old materials and old idea.

I'm no an IW fan I just think that Trey is a terrible developer.

WaW was a good game, it just wasn't even close to the same level as any of Infinity Ward's installments

The only treyarch game iv played is CoD WaW for PC and although not perfect its a bloody game. You get so many ours of enjoyment out of it. I have played more CoD WaW then I have cod 4 now.

Dont forget about the great Zombie co-op game that is almost like a second game when taking into consideration the amount of hours played on this mode.

Infinity Ward can get lost in my books they made a crappy port of MW2 for PC. So many PC gamers were looking forward to it just to be disapointed. I think for me the CoD series is dieing... Things are moving on i.e Bad Company 2 which will be the real modern warfare experience which will probly include DX11 and not back in the times on DX9

Hang on, CoD 4 and CoD WaW are all but identical online. Did Activision force Infinity Ward to pass on their winning multiplayer formula to Treyarch, or did Treyarch have to copy the whole thing?

I don't see what all the fuss is about the the CoD games. I got bored of CoD 4. I guess standards have slipped over the years. It's the same with Left 4 Dead, soooooooooooooo boring. It should be a mission based game instead of doing the same thing for hours on end (going from a to b and that's it). Yawwwwwww...

I hope treyarch make a MW2 game like WaW... they could only do miles better than IW's crappy effort

MW2 made their money from hype

here is a really nice article and qote

Now, everybody knows that Modern Warfare 2 grossed a whopping $550 million worldwide in first five days of launch. But how much the game cost to produce? According to latimes.com, Modern Warfare 2 cost $40 million to $50 million to produce, but if you add marketing expenses and the cost of producing and distributing discs, the launch budget was $200 million.

Infinity Wards latest FPS game has managed to set a new record for entertainment media, beating Hollywood epics like Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince, which earned a mere $394 million. Also, it managed to beat its nearest rival in gaming media, GTA 4, which grossed $500 million in the same time frame.

the very reason console game devs go bankuprt.

Haha if the CoD series is dieing then why does it keep selling...? it'll be a while before it dies. even though there are better games like bad company 2 and MAG

The whole 'OMG IW are crap and treyarch are AWSUMZ!' is kind of sad. IW make better games, admit it. WaW was simply CoD4 reskinned with little difference, CoD4 was groudbreaking and MW2 has huge changes. This is simply another blizzard/WoW case; 'omg its popular' so it must be hardcore to dislike it.
