Ratchet and Clank Future: A Crack in Time box art.
The first Ratchet and Clank title was released in 2002. Since then, the series has grown to nine games with the recent launch of Ratchet and Clank Future: A Crack in Time on the Playstation 3. Developer Insomniac Games recently drew many criticisms for their supposed milking of the Ratchet and Clank franchise.
In their lastest Full Moon Show podcast, Ryan Schneider, Insomniac Games’ Community Director, addressed this growing sentiment among the media and the general gaming population:
Maybe we’re living in a bubble but people still enjoy the franchise. We have a very hardcore fan base that is very supportive of the title. The fact is we’ve had seven games that we’ve made, not including the two others that High Impact did, that’s nine titles overall. Of the seven that we’ve done, we’re still at a close to an 87 Metacritic right now. It’s a well regarded franchise. It’s a gamer’s game also I think where, if you are into video games, you’ve been into video games, you appreciate a well-crafted video game, than you know and appreciate what Ratchet’s all about.
Ratchet and Clank Future: A Crack in Time was released on October 27th exclusively for the Playstation 3.

I've hated the R&C series ever since Future TOD. -_-
They ruined the series imo.
R&C's awesome and always will be as long as insomniac keeps making them if what there doing is milking they should start a dairy farm!
I don't see why everyone is saying that R&C isn't being milked but, somehow, halo is.
Haroids, you ruined the series.
It's a great game, well produced and very easy on the eyes, well done Insomniac, while other companies fail miserably at their games, you manage to outshine your last achievement by miles. Thank you for the good games and the good times.
Ive only played 2 games in the series and I can already tell that they have milked the series...I mean what is this, their seventh outing???? Frankly I was bored with Crack in Time...
The R&C series is not being "milked". An example of "milking" a series is what Activision has done with Guitar Hero I, II, III, World Tour, 5, Aerosmith, Metallica, Smash Hits, Band Hero, DJ Hero, etc and this has all been since 2006. And even when released on the same system in our digital age, the DLC from many of the above games is incompatible, forcing the customer to buy several different games if they want to play all available DLC. So you see, these critics are idiots when they criticize a developer who consistently releases 7 high quality games over 7 years.
theyve made like 7 games for 3 different platforms in about 9 years, how the hell is that milking it
ToD wasn't as good as the rest of the series IMO, but ACiT was a HUGE improvement over that! ACiT is now my favorite game in the whole series!
I think they are milking... make a new game.. try to be different.... test if u got talent or something... hopefully new franchise like Uncharted will come so that u can milk that ur next 9 games !!
A Crack in Time ruined it for me. I've played and beat every game in the series numerous times and I'm sorry to say that ACiT should be the final installment of the franchise. The game moves at an all too slow pace and the time puzzles with Clank absolutely ruin the game. The back and forth gameplay with Ratchet planet-hopping and then having to play as Clank in the boring and bland "Great Clock" totally destroys any pace the game has. As usual, the tournament portions of the game are the truly only fun parts of the game, but honestly, there's nothing new here. All the staples of every R&C game can be found here, grindboots, swingshot, a gun that turns the bad guys into an animal(a monkey this time), and an awkward spaceship flying session between levels. I traded the game in the day after I beat it. Nothing new here. It seems that Insomniac is afraid to take chances with their talented developers as witnessed in the also boring and totally slow Resistance 2. A new IP would be great.
They're not milking the series at all. I don't see how anyone could even think that. Insomniac Games have done 7 Ratchet & Clank titles in, pretty much, 7 years. That's fine, and all of them manage to average a great Metacritic score. Look at Guitar Hero, that's milking.
Slickninja, go and play some Call of Duty, it has a 5 hour campaign, and plenty of action in the multiplayer. Or maybe ramp up on Guitar Hero and put it on a higher difficulty to get those fingers moving as fast as possible. A game is slow because a game has a good story, if you don't like that, then there's no point playing Ratchet & Clank.
Geoffrey, if you're bored with a game, it doesn't mean it's been milked, it just means you should go away and play a different game, you obviously don't like Ratchet & Clank.
TruMan, they did do a new IP - Resistance. Insomniac has got plenty of talent, and that's how they've managed to make R&C great every time they make a new one.
There we go. :)
being*.
insomniac dont listen to these idiots they dont know what there talking about.
ACIT is the best game out this year, maybe besides infamous.
2nd best in the series, best being up your arsenal.
loved that game to death, best game on the ps2 i wish they would do a remake of that like the GOW collection.
i would kill to play R&C 3 in HD with trophy support.
now that would be a dream come true!
Not milking, the RAC is one of the best game series of the last two console generations. Theyre still fun and addictive. Few of the games have been dull but the tools of destruction and quest for booty and now crack in time are going tro the right way. I say they're not milking it. There isn't really many games that kids can play.
If this is milking, what should we call what Nintendo done with Mario? There are no words for that then.
I haven't played the Ratchet series since the PS2, but it is probably the reason I will eventually get a PS3.
There have been 2 major installments in the R & C franchise over the past 3 years (TOD & ACIT). Quest For Booty was a PSN spin - off so it doesn't really count. Secret Agent Clank was only for the PSP. 2 games in 3 years is not milking. If you look at something that's being milked, like Halo, where there have been 2 games in 1 year and another planned for next......so that's 3 games in 2 years. THAT'S milking. The difference between Halo and R & C is - people actually respect Ratchet & Clank because of it's innovation. Halo Wars was not innovative - it was a poorly - developed Age Of Empires rip - off.
i very much enjoy the R@C franchise. i've been a fan since the first. i will buy these games as long as insomniac keeps making them. face it platformers are dead all thats left is mario and R@C if you don't like R@C you don't like platformers.
I don't agree that all other platformers are dead. What about LittleBigPlanet, Sonic The Hedgehog or Jak & Daxter?
Got something to say?
