Ratchet and Clank Future: A Crack in Time box art.

Ratchet and Clank Future: A Crack in Time is the ninth game in the series over a span of seven years. In their latest Full Moon Show podcast, developer Insomniac Games hinted that their popular franchise is heading to a new direction. Ryan Schneider, the Community Director of Insomniac Games, made the following statement:

I think the next step for Ratchet and Clank is simply getting it out into the mainstream, which is what we’re working to do. And I think that it’s been ready for that kind of exposure for a long time now.

Ratchet and Clank Future: A Crack in Time came out on October 27th exclusively for the Playstation 3.

Yes. Sony will give up the IP to Ratchet & Clank so that they can put the game on Microsoft and Nintendo consoles. While Insomniac is not a first party developer, Sony owns all of their IPs.

He probably just means something like a movie. Like an animated Pixar movie. Insomniac can work with Sony Animation and Sony Pictures to do one and grab mainstream attention that will help bring more recognition to the games. A TV Show could also work... but a movie is more likely.

a crack in time was not all that. imo it was the lease fun R&C game ever!!! not as bad as deadlock but just as bad. not enough gameplay to much time flying around in space. I hope the next R&C be much, much better

Smitty must be some kind of an idiot - i know 360 owners are desperate for good games right now but Sony OWN the Ratchet & Clank IP so that means it's NEVER going multiplatform. I wonder what Insomniac meant by "Taking it mainstream" though......i don't know how a R & C movie would work, TBH.

I think they mean 'Mainstream' in terms of 'We spent 30,000,000 on a game that sold 100,000 copies, so unless Uncle Sony bails us out again then we'll have to make a game that appeals to more people'

Unfortunately Sony prefer to bury Insomniac titles than market them.

they better not change the series, its perfect as it is.
please insomniac dont listen to these idiot journalists complaining that its nothing new.
as they say if it aint broke dont fix it.
a new R&C gladiator would be nice but thats as far away from the norm as id like them to go.
