Capcom interested in more throwback games

Mega Man 9 Xbox Live Arcade cover.

Mega Man 9 was released in the fall of 2008 for WiiWare (Nintendo Wii), Playstation Network (Playstation 3) and Xbox Live Arcade (Xbox 360). Instead of taking advantage of the new technologies, the game uses throwback 8-bit audio, graphics and game design.

Mega Man 9 may not be the last throwback title from Capcom. Christian Svensson, Corporate Officer and Vice-President of Strategic Planning & Business Development for Capcom, made the following remark on the Capcom-Unity forum when asked if Mega Man 9 was a successful venture and if it will open up more throwback opportunities:

“I don't think we were disapointed by it. I can't say right now whether or not you'll see more in this style but I know there's creative interest in doing so.”

Aside from Mega Man, Capcom also has several popular 8-bit games like Bionic Commando, DuckTales, Ghosts 'n Goblins and Strider. Any of the aforementioned titles would be great candidates for a throwback game.
