Many Resident Evil fans on the Nintendo Wii were upset to learn that the Resident Evil: The Darkside Chronicles is an on-rails arcade shooter instead of a mainline traditional title. Matt Dahlgren, the product manager for the Resident Evil brand, explained Capcom’s decision for the gameplay in a recent live-streaming event:
If you look at Resident Evil in the past, there’s a lot of different styles of games that have appeared within the franchise. An arcade-style shooter is definitely not brand new to the series. And it fits particularly well on the Wii platform. We already did Umbrella Chronicles once and that left some gaps in the storyline. So it made sense to finish off this iteration of this series.
Resident Evil: The Darkside Chronicles will be released on November 17th exclusively for the Nintendo Wii.

It's infuriating to see how a few Capcom employees are destroying the Resident Evil franchise. If the original RE games were on-rails, I wouldn't have bought them. Once you've played House of the Dead, you've played all on-rails. Also, RE4/5 are inferior to RE0-3 gameplay-wise. There's nothing wrong with the original design and I hope RE will return to it.
Only one of the RE shooters were semi-decent imo and that was Dead Aim the rest just detracted from the whole RE experience, I agree with practicing01, a return to the RE 0-3 formula is in order, as it stands there is very little challenge(or horror) in the RE franchise.
