PlayStation Move "nunchuck" doesn't detect motion, must be charged separately

Credits:

During its GDC 2010 keynote in San Francisco this evening, Sony officially named its upcoming motion controller "PlayStation Move."

Many are rightfully comparing the device to Nintendo's own Wii remote. Not only does the wand device function similarly to Nintendo's controller, it even connects to another controller device, the Move Subcontroller, that serves the same general purpose as Wii's nunchuck controller.

That said, there are some notable differences between Wii's nunchuck and Move's Subcontroller.

For one, Sony's controller duo functions wirelessly. No wire connecting the two devices. What's more, Sony's controllers do not use AA batteries. Rather, they are charged via the PlayStation 3 with the same USB cable used to charge conventional PlayStation 3 controllers.

That being the case, the Move controller itself and the Subcontroller attachment must be charged separately. Sony has yet to mention anything regarding battery life, however.

Another difference is that Sony's version of the nunchuck does not feature a gyro sensor at this time. A developer said, though, that could change by the time it's released. But the current version doesn't detect movement.

More from GDC as it happens.

It's sad to see all the 12 year olds on N4G who bash the Wii coming to Sony's side on the motion control bit.

News flash; both the Wii and MOVE are a joke. Not the future people, stop pretending like this is anything more than a fad that both companies are doing to get rich quicker.

M$ needs to release that us Xbox 360 gamers need bigger media to store games on either by MUCH cheaper hard drives or a blu-ray add-on. So many games and developers are saying that the 360 has limitations and with no new console for years to come, the 360 will come second to the PS3 because of a pathetic ideal of having download only. What a load of crap. M$ should shallow it’s pride and allow a blu-ray add-on for games. They bang on about video downloads but what about the f*cking games.
My brother has both a PS3 and a 360. He purchased FFXII yesterday. Guess which format…….yep, it’s on PS3.
    M$ your a greedy c*nt.

Man, a lot of PS fans out there are supporting this. I thought they hated gimmicks. I thought the Wii was ruining gaming. I guess you have to be a hypocrit to understand.

How dumb, it doesn't detect motion yet it has to be charged. the nunchuck detects motion and doesn't have to be charged

YES!!! Built in USB rechargable batteries! Thank you Sony!!! Now make sure the nunchuck sub controller is in the bundle with the Move controller, and the Eye! I'll probably skip your sports game though as it looks crap and I already had my fill of it on the Wii. But maybe you ought to make a bundle with Resident Evil 5 and other stuff for those who want a core game!
