Electronic Arts announced in a press release today that The Sims are about to go medieval on our butts!  The new game, The Sims Medieval, will place the familiar characters known as "Sims" in the Middle Ages and will have gameplay that's never been seen in the history of The Sims.  General Manager of The Sims Studio, Scott Evans, says, "The Sims Medieval offers a new way for players to experience The Sims which we hope fans will enjoy, and it features gameplay that fans of strategy and role-playing games will find appealing such as controlling an entire kingdom and quest-based gameplay mechanics."

The premise of The Sims Medieval sounds like a mash-up between The Sims, a single-player World of Warcraft, and Sid Meier's Civilization.  Players can control Knights, Wizards, Blacksmiths, Bards, Kings, and Queens, and experience different storylines by taking those characters on quests, where each quest's outcome is different for each character type.  Players will also build up their kingdom, potentially by an "imperial type of domination, expanding their rule by conquering territories."

Possibly the most interesting part of the announcement is in the word choice at the top of the press release.  EA calls The Sims Medieval a new series; meaning that they're already intending on releasing multiple Medieval installments after the first one hits PC's and Mac's in spring 2011.  Visit the official website (currently devoid of any useful information) at www.TheSimsMedieval.com.

"From having a baby to competing in a royal tournament, what happens to their Sims is up to the player. The time of romance and chivalry is back with The Sims Medieval."
