Microsoft announces Modern Warfare 2

Surely many gamers across the country who were not among the fortunate few were wishing they were at Galen Center in Los Angeles at today's E3 conference.  Many of them might have wished to watch the demo of Inifinity Ward's Modern Warfare 2.

This FPS action adventure is set to be a fine sequel to the original and the demo promised some pulse pounding thrills.  The demo itself opened up with a precarious climb up icy cliffs as a prelude to an assault on a snowy mountain encampment.  The graphics are definitely excellent here and did a good job of conveying a sense of danger and being trapped in the snow (reminiscent of Lost Planet).

Once the demo got into the action, the hazy snow atmosphere gave a nice fog of war and a great way to sneak up on enemies out of the haze and pop them for one shot kills.  The lethality against enemies remains high with most enemies falling from one to two shots and the muffled rifle sound were nicely realistic.  That didn't mean we didn't see some wild action movie style fights with absurd levels of action.  The demo ends with a crazy Babylon AD-style escape via snowmobiles of course with accompanying Uzi fire.

Infinity Ward announced a release date of November 10, 2009 on this game with two map packs to come soon after.
