Used games showcase: 'Time Gentlemen, Please!' (PC)

Once again, as when I reported on the first title, "Ben There, Dan That!", this game is NOT used, but it falls into the price range of the Used Games Showcase qualifications, which I've previously established as pretty loose. I have to admit, that when I found out about this game's release last week, I was excited. I squealed. THERE WAS ACTUAL SQUEALAGE.

In case you aren't familiar with the earlier posting, "Time Gentlemen, Please!" is the continuation of the story from freeware point-and-click comedy "Ben There, Dan That!". The game follows the classic LucasArts style of options - look, use, talk to, walk to. Then the added option to use your buddy Dan on items, which sometimes leads to hilarity, other times to actual uses.

The story picks off from where "Ben There, Dan That!" left off. Honestly, it's going to be hard to not describe this without ruining the ending of the first, but I'll try. Somehow, the world has died due to Ben and Dan's watching of a "Magnum, PI" marathon. They decide to use a time machine of questionable origin and effectiveness to go back in time and stop coat hangers from being invented, since they have a coat hanger antenna for their TV.

Somehow, these two bugger up their own idiotic plan so much that coat hangers become instrumental in Hitler's rise to power in Britain, and hilarity ensues from there. The game still includes the heavy travel elements, along with another interesting method of item creation.

Much like playing the sequel of anything, this game might not make much sense to you if you don't play the original title. BTDT is free, and a great way to spend a weekend or rainy day. The dry humor and hilarious characters are entirely worth the game, along with the clever puzzles and items.

"Time Gentlemen, Please!" can be best described as a top-notch independent game. The graphics are sleeker this time around, some minor gameplay issues solved, and this one references LucasArts more than usual. Watch out for a parrot that would annoy Indiana Jones just as much as it annoys Dan and Ben.

It's available through Zombie Cow's website for less than $5. Give BTDT a shot if you're not sure, but I was more than willing to pay the fee.
