3D Realms' closing a hoax?

I've been assured by many sources that this is not a hoax, but everytime I pick up Duke Nukem related news, it feels so...strange. There has been more news reported about Duke Nukem Forever in the last couple weeks than in the last 13 years of development. Screenshots have been released. Gameplay videos have been uploaded. And everyone talks about what could've been.

Why does it still feel like a hoax? The Escapist reports that a website petitioning to release Duke Nukem Forever, SaveDukeNukem.com, was registered THE SAME DAY that 3D Realms announced their closure:

According to a reddit user by the name of "innocentbystander," the process to complete a domain registration takes enough time that the owner, someone named Jeff Shenk, would almost certainly have needed foreknowledge of the closure in order to get the job done so quickly.

All this news, people are actually caring about the lack of Duke Nukem in their lives, people petitioning. It can't be for real. Can it?
