Since the last game update, Uncharted 2: Among Thieves players have been encountering some new game rules. Unlike when the game first launched, if you quit a multiplayer match during the game, you are now deducted 40,000 dollars. Of course, you are forgiven the first time you commit this act, but for every following act you will be punished.
Many gamers are now complaining about this action Naughty Dog added to the game because it punishes those who feel they have done no wrong. Whether it’s because of a system freeze, lost of connection, or some other system/internet mishap, players are becoming frustrated with the loss of money and online rankings.
Even though many gamers are being quite vocal on this matter, Naughty Dog is standing by their decision. Arne Meyer of Naughty Dog recently addressed this issue and reassures players that Naughty Dog is listening to player’s complaints and suggestions on the issue, but they still believe they made the right decision with the penalty system.
Arne Meyer: “Currently we’re confident we’ve made the right decision regarding penalties for leaving the match—remember you don’t get docked any cash for the FIRST time. We’re keeping a close eye on in-game stats and forums and we will make adjustments if and when we feel they are warranted.”
With online gaming as competitive as it is, it’s understandable as to why some are getting upset on this issue. Naughty Dog has kept a careful eye on the online portion of the game and they’ll surely continue doing so.

ND is a great company, they do need to take off the penalty though because if i play for an hour i end up losing more experience then i earned
nd did a great job making u2 no matter what.iw actually failed with mw2 cause it really wasnt anything amazingly new just the online has a bit to it and is just ok.campaighn is short and coop isnt that good.u2 has great everthing deffinetly desserves goty more than mw2
Penalty system is fair. Nothing worse than quiters thinking of only themselves. Disconnects are painful but the occasional $40,000 is something I can live with if it insures the quality of the game.
Quiting should be punished, and disconnects are always a bihac. I remember keeping up my +50% online wins with the 1st MotorStorm, of the 1000 losses about a quarter was because of disconnections, 250 freaking games with me in the lead in at least half of them. It made me stop caring 4 stats, and just enjoy the games I'm in. PSN improved, UC2 rocks, and this change will effect quiters more than those with bad/slow internet.
the multiplayer has potential, but its extremly laggy and i never quit a game so all my loses were due to connection issues!
i bought UC2 because it was a package of single, co-op and multiplayer! but now i cant play the last two because of the bad servers! so naughty dog, i am VERY disappointed!

Anyway - on to the article - ND did the right thing with theese penaltys. I'm sick of crybaby non - gamers quitting matches just because they're losing, it's absolutely pathetic! Anyone who wimps out of a game because they can't handle the fact that they suck deserves to be docked ALL their money and have to start again. Online gaming is for REAL gamers only.......if you're a retard that quits because you're losing they you have no business playing games in the first place.
You know, the sony servers are fine... you really need to start pushing the blame where it is actually due... You internet service provider that is throttling your connection.... or your inability to properly network your house... I have found that almost all my slow connection speeds have always been either one of the two, once those were corrected, then i was good. If your ISP just sucks, well, There is nothing Sony can do about that.. Move somewhere else. =P
UC2 is one of the best games ever and the online is excellent!
@anas like said before, you need another ISP because you can't exactly blame the server for being laggy, blame your ISP
Disconnections... is this really a problem with PSN???
ppl complaining about multiplayer being laggy needs to check their own connection. ive played one hour or more almost every day since game launched., i have never ever had lag. but i can understand that ppl get upset if they get kicked out for bad connection and then loose money. however theres rly nothing they can do. ppl leaving matches was a huge problem in before the penalty. and since its only 5vs5, a player leaving causes major unbalance. my sugestion is to keep one of the playlist without the penalty, for example the deathmatch only playlist. so ppl with connection problem can play in that playlist if they want,. but i truly believe that alot ppl who r complaining r actually just f a g s who wanna quit their game every time they getting pwnd.
Just like FIFA 10. When i'm playing online, the EA servers automatically disconnect but the playstation network doesnt. Barghhh. That cost me more than 70 games. Now i'm with 233 wins and 226 losses. This is not acceptable. Uncharted though, was not laggy for me.

I am very disappointed with this, i have a bad connection and i cant do anything about it yet, i do not understand why this penalty system is in place since all it has done is frustrate players and because of this we cant enjoy to the fullest what is easily a perfect game. I love the online and its frustrating that i cant progress. Stuff happens naughty dog,we shouldnt be punished for it. How would you like it if a cop gave you a fine every time you hit your toe or when you accidently drop something?
My biggest problem is that if you quit a game without a penalty (other than the 30-secs one) and then quit out of the game completely, the next time you log in to play multiplayer you get docked $40k - Now that is a bug and is very annoying!
@Tizack - you are a chop. Gamers connecting from countries such as South Africa face lag and tbh Uncharted 2 does not work very well and connections drop out badly. Something one does not experience in games such as COD - not cool to implement it like this from Naughty Dog.
I have the fastest (4MB) line available. Cat-6e cabling and gigabit connections - does not help if the game servers clutch out and disconnect.
quit your bitching . stop being cheap asses and buy proper broadband . your crying because your highspeed dial up don't cut it . the penalty system is perfect . i got a 8meg connetion and the game works flawless. whinning cheap asses are the only thing that truly ruins onlie gaming for the rest of us , you cheap laggy whinners. it even sais rite on the ps3 box (BROADBAND REQUIRED) , if you can afford a ps3 then surely you can buy real BROADBAND INTERNET . CRAPPERNET IS NOT BROADBAND INTERNET PERIOD.
Naughty dog you are making a big mistake.. MGO inplemented a system just like this but it signed you off MGO online and banned you from it until the next day. Half of the MGO players left because of this, the other half left because of the lousy servers. The rest are just people who have yet to experience this or the level 15 players that just can't quit with a record like that. So think about Naughty Dog you soon are not gonna have any players online. With Mw2 making about 30% of the UC2 players leave a huge number of players could leave because of this very dumb penalty. What? I joined a game but i want to join my friend's party so we play togeather but i just cannot leave because i don't want -40k off my rank. What am i supposed to do? make him wait 10 minutes?

itz all fair i got ova 400 games played and no DCs and i don't quit. IF you unplug your system you will not be docked 40k thats what a friend told me idk if it works this may put your system in harm of breaking i don't suggest this .PS I never seen much LAG in all my 400 games played but i got a 30MB connection.
It offends me as a human to see this much stupid people in one place.
1. People from other countries accept America play the game, not all of them have equal Internet capabilities. I'm from Croatia and the most i can get it 4mbps download.
2. A lot more people leave because that don't feel like playing or because they are losing then because of singning out, or hardware problem.
3. What would you do? Something has to be done, how would you stop people from leaving?
4. NG knows they can't compare with MW2 when it comes to online, and i don't think they care. U2 MP is meant to be for fun, short fun....it just doesn't have enough depth for anything else.
5. And last, but not least. When you have something to say, say it like a normal person. Why does every other word have to a curse word? You guys (Americans) are just continuing to prove to the world that you're a bunch of uneducated fools with games as their high point in life.

i can play any game i want online with no problems, be it killzone 2 or the MAG beta or the battlefield bad company 2 beta or resistance 2 or even resistance fall of man.
no problems but as soon as i pop in uncharted 2 and hop online my net drops out.

they need to fidure somthing out about people getting dropped, im considering not playing this cuz i have the problem every once n awhile and to lose my level for somthing out of my control is BS, and yes it is true when i play other multi games i have no problem its cuz ND use a peer to peer connection. its suks
Got kicked off- did some researching.. I am trying it with static ip to see if that helps. Maybe it isn't ND because my friend has not had issues. I used to play on his system A LOT, and never saw the issue. I have the issue regularly on my new PS3 with top notch router and fast connection. I was the network admin for his system too... One gripe I really have though is that I paid for the DLC maps and they haven't come up even ONCE!!!!! and I have been playing tons. It is always the same 3 or 4 places. Pisses me off. WTF. Why did I pay for the DLC if I haven't used it once!? If you ask me, that is asinine. Not happy. BTW, yes, I have DLC selected in my profile and blah blah blah.
I don't get it. Great game. Excellent game. Love the online play- when it works. But you have to admit, the connectivity problems and total lack of control is selecting your online gameplay is a drawback.
