Microsoft has released their fiscal data for the year and in this report they revealed that the Xbox 360 has sold over 40 million units worldwide since the consoles launch in 2005. In 2005 they sold a reported 5 million units and things have taken-off since then. With each seeing an increase over the last, Microsoft has managed to move a lot of units and looks to keeps things moving. The next milestone for the system will be 50 million and it looks like it'll reach that without much concern. Below, you'll find a year by year breakdown of the system sales.

I have both systems, I like the ps3 more cause it gives you different type of games. The graphics you cannot even compare to 360. NONE of the 360 games are true HD, Alan Wake is running at 578p. What's funny is PS3 has been selling at a faster pace than 360. 360's 08-09 has it pegged at 31.4 million. That window is the same amount of time PS3 currently has now and PS3 sold over to 35 million. So Sony sold 5 million more PS3's in the same time frame MS sold 31 million 360's. Considering PS34 launched at $600 kind of makes one wonder.

I like all 3 systems, they all have good games. Yes even the wii. But if i had to choose hands down xbox live. Sony already lost, last generation they sold 130 mill, this generation they'll be lucky to reach 50 mill. Microsoft already won they have double what they sold on the first xbox. HAHAHAHAHA!!!! 360 games are lower resolution internally upscalled to 1080p so MS can put "1080p" on the back of the box, and unfortunately many people don't realise that their TV will atually do a better job, hence why Forza 3 is a jaggie mess on a 1080p set.

It's fair to say that out of those 40 million consoles, how many gamers have bought a replacement? I got my first console in 2006, to date, I'm onto my 6th one due to them all being faulty, apart from my 6th one which has been OK up to now. The other 5 had been replaced with new ones as I took them all back to the store.
