Prior to launch, Heavy Rain received a 230MB patch and what exactly it did was unknown and currently remains unknown. With the game now on retail shelves, many are going to their local retailers and picking the game up in eager anticipation to bring it home and immerse themselves in a unique gaming experience. Sadly, after installing the 230MB patch, they are running into some technical issues with the game.
Among the complaints, many are complaining about game crashes, audio skipping, save/loading problems, and some characters getting caught in furniture. Not all are complaining about the game, though. For many, the game is running fine after the patch and they are enjoying the experience the game offers. Whether the problems are widespread or just a minor problem for some can't be determined, yet. Since the game isn't an online title, you don't need to get the patch to play the game, but you will have to deny the patch every time you play the game.
If you are having any of the problems mentioned above, let us know in the comments. When we reviewed the game, none of these problems were present and it seems that the patch could be the cause of the problems. Hopefully, we'll hear something about these issues from Sony and a solution in the near future.

I'm having issues with graphics glitches. Hovering text will sometimes blink rapidly instead of staying on-screen. Character movement is stuttering. There are some posts on some gaming forums indicating the same problems.
I have had one very odd problem. I have no idea if it is due to the patch, but during the store robbery, instead of coming from directly behind the robber, I came at an angle which seemed to confuse the game. He saw me AND I caught him off guard. That's right, I ended up having both outcomes at once. From this point on, I had all of the different outcomes mixed together for every scene. This made things like the box float in some scene and me holding it in others. Some angles the robber was gone and others he was right behind me even though he was supposedly gone. The door opened by itself (I suppose from another scene where the detective leaves). Very crazy. The last scene looped about 2 or 3 times and then it completed. I don't know if this would effect later parts of the game due to multiple paths completed all at once lol. I also don't know if I was supposed to get any trophy's, but I didn't. Like I said... very very weird. No other problems though.

Same thing for me, except no license plate - When looking in a mirror my character's face looks bruised and bloodied.
Just got the game and it installed the update since it was mandatory. I had the game crash twice: once during the Crime Scene scene and then again when I went to the chapters menu.
Loving it so far, nothing frequent for me, but one freeze requiring reboot in about 2 hours of play is one too much (crime scene). I'm confidant they'll address it promptly. Hope so anyway. Slow start, but I'm hooked.

I also had some loading problems, but then i jsut took the disc out, wiped it clean.. seeing it had like finger prints on and played further... I already completed it once... going for my second play thru when i get home :P 27 trophies so far unlocked wish me luck
dudes here is a tip for u guys who just get a blank screen. Take the disc out clean it gently. Put your PS3 off. Restart go in Load the chapter and go to Continue... Easy As Pie
tried all that plus uninstalled and reinstalled game unistalled patch tried it same thing only way i can get it to work at the chapter the nurse is to go to chapter select but it warns if i save from that point it could effect my story also my ps3 is 1 of the old backwards compatible ones

I've had screen tearing and audio skipping all over the place. Something seriously needs to be done about this Sony!!!! Totally loses the feeling of being so "movielike" in some scenes.

I get flickering text (such as on the title screen or the day of week listed at the beginning of each scene), a stuttering frame rate, some audio/video synch problems, hair that floats off of people's heads, and clothing that flickers on and off (the PI's coat looks like it's about to fly off of him), and I get these problems both with the patch and without it, it makes no difference at all, and that seems true for other people I've heard at the official playstation forum :(
I bought the game got home turned it on and as soon as the install finished the opening scene starts and I say "Yes here we go" The dude is sleeping the arrow pops up on screen I move the right stick up and it froze. 10 seconds in and it froze so I reboot.
The wife gets home we're talking and then silence...I thought I sat on the mute button..no luck 2 seconds later it freezes while I'm drinking coffee. I went back to the store got a new copy and haven't had a chance to play it yet but thanks for the heads up I might try skipping the patch this time.

Okay so after getting home and playing my copy for approx 5hrs or so. I get to the Butterfly I finish the sequence and the game freezes up....? I turn off the system via the power button, take the disk out, wipe it clean and put it back in. Game starts fine I go to continue. I see Ethan's face. I wait black screen and the system completely unresponsive. WHAT THE HECK?!?!?! I just wasted 5 hrs of my life for nothing?!?!?!

every single bloody game they release is unplayable upon release like little big planet with the server drops, or resistance 2 with the freezing, or KZ2 with those 5021 errors, or MAG with the impossible LAG and server kicks.

Maybe you PS3 is packing up buddy. My Heavy Rain never crashed once... Maybe a black screen once but that was it. Give it like 3 days i'm sure their working on a patch for the rest of you guys having problems. Don't think the developers will sit there watching all the eager fans sit there and complain
I was having the Same problem it's trough the whole ga e start to fin. You can play trough it no problem. But a patch would be great. 10/10 from me even with the bugs.
i got a freeze, and when i tried launching the game again, i could not play anymore. now i do not know what to do in order to be able to play...
maybe if i uninstalled the game en restarted a new game, but that is not what i would call a "gaming experience".

I have the "fat" PS3 and the game's sound completely cut out and then froze on a black screen when I attempted to go back to the main menu.

@ Name: I don't have resistance so I can't comment but KZ2 did not have any issues that i'm aware and as far as MAG goes my lag is minimal to none. Might want to check w/ your IP or Router. I was planing on getting HR but I think i'll wait. Maybe i'll get GOD3 before HR.
I definitely get some skipping here and there, both audio and video, but nothing serious.
When I first played it, i did it w/o the patch. The screen went completly black and froze at the begining of the mall sequence. After looking at the black screen for 5 min, I got the patch done thinking that would fix it. After the install, it froze(this time w/graphics of screen) when trying to exit the Crime scene with Leitenant Blake.
I have a problem as well. The game works fine until I get to the mall where your calling jason's name. The audio starts cutting off and when I approach jason, it doesn't give me the option to interact by kneeling down & talking to him? So I deleted saved, patch, and game data about 3 times. & never fails to freeze at that exact moment. I have formatted my ps3 & hoping for the best, if not ill return for another copy. - my psn - Jeremytext1
yup although it seem to have gone a away i definitely had some skipping issues in the beginning
it won't load anymore.. all I get is this dumb black screen.. I actually had my game up to the "fish tank" level, but i was able to replay just one last level ("the doc") before it started crashing after that.. I have the 80 gb, fat ps3 if that helps..
I have audio and video stuttering and going out of sync in the cutscenes. But more problematic is that ingame video (such as the video played on the mobile phone found in the box) doesn't display at all. When I reloaded my save from just before that point, the video saved so I didnt miss out on that important clue, but the video bit right after that with the text on the screen, it didnt show up. Dont understand how a console exclusive game can have so many problems.

O Yeah... people are also complaining about system failure after having to shut down their ps3 because of the game malfunctioning . Mmm Oh forget about $65.00 its about losing $300.00 for $65.00 that's a ps3 so not worth guess HEAVY RAIN won't make moneY off me .
WOW I seriously loved the game until I to the 5th origami note and was headed to save the son until I got a BLACK SCREEN. I thought to myself it was a part of the game until 5 mins went by and still a black screen. But the weird thing was I could still press select (control menu) and the start button worked as well. I then went pressed Back To Main Menu and loaded up the last save point and I still got the black screen. It is so lame when you are totally immersed in the game and awaiting for what could possibly be next and then a techincal problem occurs. WOW? How could they release a game that has this many problems? Are we looking at a another Socom Confrontation? I play Socom Confrontation religiously and Love Socom but HATE SLANT SIX! Are we looking at another company who didnt take the time to check these issues out like Slant Six? If so then this is the last time they will ever get my money.
