European gamers and some North American gamers are currently enjoying the two chapter long demo of Heavy Rain. With the public demo set to release on February 11th for everyone else, some gamers who were able to solve the mystery of the ‘Four Day Challenge’ and present their evidence were lucky and received a voucher for the demo ahead of schedule. The demo contains the chapters ‘Crime Scene’ and ‘Sleazy Place’. Each offers a different look at the game from an investigative view of FBI Agent Norman Jayden and a more action-oriented segment with Private Detective Scott Shelby.

Several forums are filling up with demo impressions of Heavy Rain and most are very positives, with many having issues with some minor aspect of the game. The most frequent complaint is related to the Resident Evil-style tank controls, but, aside from that, gamers are enjoying the graphics, music, and atmosphere the game is delivering.

With all the positive feedback, some just aren’t getting a good vibe from the game. Some think the game is still nothing more than a big cut-scene with push-button sequences or the demo is boring. Since the demo offers a very brief look at the game, it’s hard to see the consequences of your actions based solely on the demo alone.

Everyone will get a chance with the demo next week, but, for now, the demo is leaving a mixed taste in the mouth of gamers, though it was expected with a game this unique. We have a full hands-on of the review build available for you to read, and we’ll have a full review of the game to share with you on February 10th. If you played the demo, share your impressions with us in our comment section. Below, we have screens of the segments you'll find in the demo build.

My biggest problem, You have to hold R2 to move and release to stop. What the hell is up with that.

I have just played through the demo for the 2nd time. Managed to pick up more clues on the crime scene, also found where the killer went in and out of the scene. Another thing was that with the Shelby chapter the mother opened up much more to him, even lighting a cig. The amount of little things that you can put together offer you a variety chances! A++++++

Demo was fantastic I thought. It's one of those games where videos can't do it justice. You have to sit down and play it for yourself. As for people complaining about 'tank' controls...what were you expecting? This isn't an action game. You aren't supposed to sprint down the hall, bust the door down and shoot first, ask later. You're supposed to be investigating a serial killer. If you can't handle a game focused on story more so than action, go play one of the thousand FPS games out there that do absolutely nothing to further the industry.

I think this game is more of an acquired taste.

I wont expect everyone will like it but those who enjoyed Fahrenheit will love this game.

Im not fond of the R2 walking but its part of the game and im sure it will grow on you.

Personally i enjoyed it and cant waight for more.

My only complaint... It was too short!!! I wanted more!!! QD did a hell of a job. If you didn't like Indigo Prophecy you won't like this game. Can't wait til it drops.

Started out great, then yes, the "tank controls" became a bit annoying, as well as the very murky graphic effect used for the Crime Scene part, where everything seemed to bloom and just wasn't very nice to look at, it was a distraction for me.

@Richard - The reason people are complaining about the controls is, well, it's hard to move! Not only does it risk ruining the effect of being immersed in the game's world, it also makes doing precise movements very difficult at times. I had to walk around the table in the apartment twice before i could find the spot to put the money down on the table. What you were saying about it not being an action games doesn't make any sense. I don't care what genre it is, i want the controls in the game i'm playing to be as responsive as possible.

Hmm...guess I'm the only one who didn't have any real difficulties with the controls. I picked up on them fairly quickly. Though I do agree that it is a little weird that we can't just move around with the left stick without bothering with R2.

    gees talk about spilled milk.
they have the controls that you have to use R2 to walk so it frees the left stick up to control the camera.
    whats the big deal?
i cant understand why people are constantly whining about games controls that are not arcade.
if holding down R2 to walk is too difficult for ya theres something seriously wrong with you.

my only complaint is this games been in development for 4+ years and it still has allot of bugs and screen tearing to boot.
i mean come on after 4 years you would think thats more than enough time to polish the code and get everything running smoothly.
