Is Courtney Love having second thoughts about going through with the lawsuit against Activision over Kurt Cobain's appearance in Guitar Hero 5? I think not. She did mention that Kurt would've gotten a kick out of watching his character “singing a Spice Girls song” in the game, however she's still pursuing the lawsuit . Although she feels conflicted, she feels that she is standing up for others in the music business. This makes no sense to me, because the person, who is the reason for the lawsuit, wouldn't even care. It makes me wonder if this lawsuit is for other reasons.
In an interview with NME Magazine, Courtney stated:
“What pisses me off the most about it, is I think Kurt would be fine with having five Kurt Cobains singing the song Wannabe, like, ‘Tell me what you want, what you really really want’. I think he’d find that really funny, but at the same time it’s gross what they did.
Gwen (Stefani) started the lawsuit. I have really good lawyers now and will join that lawsuit. There was this gray area and they f**ked the lot of us. They didn’t f**k Jack White, but they f**ked Gwen, f**ked Johnny Cash and f**ked Kurt… It’s just gross.
This is the rock ‘n’ roll business, this is what people do. They are sleazy, they do sleazy things.”
Coming straight from Courtney's mouth, obviously. Other artists did happen to agree with Courtney such as Dave Grohl and Krist Novoselic, originally of Nirvana. Jon Bon Jovi agreed as well, plugging that he was asked to be in the game and turned it down.
Courtney says that the agreement was to involve Kurt Cobain singing only his own songs, not those of others, thus leading to a breach of contract.
What are your thoughts on the lawsuit?
