Reader comments and RE5 meets the NBA

I'm getting some mileage out of this pic!

Hey guys! I’m back today with a quick post here addressing the reader comments before I post my next article. I want to thank everyone for reading – the page hits were off the chart for me and I’m glad that many of you seemed to enjoy the article and agree with its points. Dissenters are still more than welcome to respond, though! No one should ever fear the “tyranny of the majority.”  Don’t ever feel discouraged from disagreeing with me.

Also, before I address the comments, I’m thinking of doing a top 5 or top 10 favorite heroes or villains list in the next couple of weeks or so. I know, it’s been done to death, but I would have a different take than most, I think. I’d also love to do a reader-voted top 5 or top 10, so shoot me an e-mail with your lists and I’ll see what we come up with.

Onward to comments:

Scott – Thanks for the kind words in regard to my Halo Wars review, which, for those of you who missed it, can be found here. Scott suggests changing up my achievement advice for Penny Pincher and Big Al’s Scooter by using the Deathmatch game mode, so you guys may want to try that out if you’re working on those achievements. Thanks Scott, and apologize to Thor for me.

Chris, G, and “lol” – Thanks for the kind words, guys; they’re greatly appreciated. I’m proud of how the article turned out and glad you guys enjoyed reading it. G, I think you made a great point. Granted, RE4 took place in Europe and Spain, and Spaniards, as they are part of that large block of “European white countries,” can easily be labeled or categorized as being white. I don't think I was wrong in my evaluation, but I don't think you were wrong at all, either, and your point is still an excellent one: no one complained about Resident Evil 4. To your point, I think that if Resident Evil 6 were to take place in Mexico, Cuba, or Puerto Rico and say...Claire Redfield and Jill Valentine teamed up to fight some decidedly Hispanic zombies, that no one would be complaining about that, either. That really makes me wonder why - exactly - the media singled out RE5. Food for thought, hm? That is neither here nor there, though, since RE6 is rumored, by Capcom, to be a "reboot" of the series, so time will tell on that.

By the way, it's easy to label Spaniards as "white" when Spanish basketball sensations Pau Gasol and Rudy Fernandez are whiter than Leon S. Kennedy himself:

Not that there’s anything wrong with that! All skin tones are just that, skin tones. Pau and Rudy just have what I like to call a “gamer tan.” Hmm…I wonder if Pau and Rudy have been teaming up to play RE5 the way they teamed up at the Slam Dunk Contest in Phoenix…

…nah.

Kenji – Couldn’t have said it better myself.

J – 97% of all statistics can be made up...50% of the time.

Thanks for reading everyone, and if you missed my article about Racism and RE5, be sure to check it out here (as well as my review of the game itself here) and join the discussion. Remember that comments and e-mails are always welcome.

Be well.

Food For Thought: A lot of people forget about Resident Evil 3's other protagonist, Carlos Oliveira. If RE3 had actually taken place in Mexico instead of Raccoon City, with the white Jill Valentine teaming up with Carlos to fight Hispanic zombies, do you think that the media in 1999-2000 would have jumped on Capcom they way they did with Resident Evil 5?
