Every other industry in this economy seems to be hitting a major slowdown in sales, but not the gaming industry, though. In the month of October 2008, sales of gaming consoles, games and accessories rose 26% compared to October 2007.
It's hard to say what makes the gaming industry virtually untouchable in this ever-sickening economy. If these still-growing sales in the gaming industry continue, the industry will top $22 billion in annual sales in 2008 – according to NPD analyst Anita Frazier. This $22 billion in annual sales would set yet another annual sales record for the industry.
The top two sellers in the month of October were Fable II and Nintendo's Wii Fit. Other top sellers that month included Fallout 3, Mario Kart Wii, Wii Play, Saints Row 2, LittleBigPlanet, NBA 2K9 and Dead Space among others.
October sales of the Nintendo Wii system brought the total sales up to about 13.4 million, since launching almost two years ago. Xbox 360 and PS3 sales were also higher in October than that of October 2007.
What's to come in these next two months? It's definitely hard to say with the economy still slow and the holiday season around the corner. However, it does promise to be an interesting end of the fourth quarter though. Hopefully the gaming industry will continue to stay strong.

I guess it is much more economical to stay home and play games with friends and family than head out for a night on the town - great article!
