Top overlooked Wii games of 2010

The year 2010 is shaping up to look great for Nintendo’s home console, with titles such as Monster Hunter Tri, Epic Mickey and Super Mario Galaxy 2 set to release this year for the little white box. Even the next entry into The Legend of Zelda series is confirmed for a 2010 release. With all these big titles, there are sure to be quite a few overlooked hits to release this year. The following is a compilation of the top Wii games releasing this year that the average gamer may overlook, in alphabetical order.

And Yet It Moves

From developer Broken Rules comes a very stylized platformer to the WiiWare service. And Yet It Moves is a puzzle platformer with a significant gameplay twist: the player can rotate the world by 90 or 180 degrees, changing the paths available to platform on. The highly stylized visuals feature paper looking backgrounds and a character that looks drawn in.

Bonk: Brink of Extinction

Much like they did with their new Adventure Island installment on WiiWare, Hudson is bringing back an old franchise to current gen downloadable services -- Bonk: Brink of Extinction. In this 2.5D platforming adventure, Bonk’s world is on the verge of annihilation when a comet threatens to crash into Earth. In his latest adventure Bonk will have new transformations, including Fire Bonk, who has the power to shoot fire balls.

Calling

Developed exclusively for the Wii by Hudson, Calling is a survival horror title from the first person perspective. Players explore haunted locations that include houses, schools and hospitals. The Wii’s IR function is used to point and look around, as well as interact with objects. The Wiimote is also used to answer telephone calls from the dead.

Cosmic Walker

Cosmic Walker is an action-adventure title set in the depths of space. From screenshots and video footage of the game one can speculate that gravity gameplay and space exploration will play a large role, and it may even be a sandbox styled adventure set throughout the entire galaxy.

Fragile Dreams: Farewell Ruins of the Moon

Set in a post-apocalyptic future, the world of Fragile Dreams has lost all of its light. On top of that, the world’s population has vanished and cities are left abandoned. Players take control of Seto as he explores the empty world searching for answers and battling monsters in Namco’s latest action-RPG.

La Mulana

La Mulana is a remake of a PC game released back in 2005 of the same name. La Mulana features a whip-toting hero and throwback graphics to the MSX era. The gameplay pits players through various stages in which they must explore deeper and deeper into an ancient tomb.

Lost in Shadow

Lost in Shadow takes players through a unique adventure. Players control a boy as he travels to the top of a tower in platforming fashion -- but instead of being on the tower itself, the character is on the shadows of the tower. This promising looking title by Hudson hits WiiWare later this year.

Monado: Beginning of the World

Monado: Beginning of the World was first shown off at Nintendo's 2009 E3 Conference, and is being published by Nintendo and developed by Monolith Soft. In the trailer shown, a futuristic warrior carrying a sword does battle with a giant robot and other enemies. Aside from the initial trailer, nothing more about this action-RPG is currently known.

NBA Jam
EA is reviving one of their relatively older franchises on the Wii this year: NBA Jam. This new Wii entry into the popular basketball franchise will expand upon the “old school” gameplay mechanics its retro counterparts presented.

Sin and Punishment 2

Treasure's Wii sequel to the N64 classic is set to hit NA shelves Q2 2010. Sin and Punishment 2 features the same fast paced arcade stlye on rails shooting action of its predecessor, only now with the IR precision of the Wii Remote and double the original's length. Online leaderboards are also included to sweeten the package.

Zangeki no REGINLEIV

Very little is known currently about the plot for Nintendo’s bloody slasher, but there are some bits of gameplay information available. Players take control of different characters as they battle against giants. Over 300 customizable weapons are there for players to slash off the limbs of their giant foes. Free, four-player online co-op is confirmed, along with classic controller support.

What titles from this list are you looking forward to? Do any of these titles strike you as “sleeper hits”?
