The morning of July 27th has come and gone with hundreds, if not thousands, of copies of Starcraft 2 finding it's way into the hands of excited PC gamers the world over. I suppose in a little way, it feels like the gaming community had one of those days that just feels like Christmas, where we get that one thing we've spent so very long waiting for and hope it will fulfill all of our dreams.
Well, in this case, Blizzard has seemingly offered that to us all on a silver platter and there are few who seem to be passing on it. While the exact sales figures for the game won't be out until the end of the week, it's no doubt that many of those 800,000 pre-orders got snatched up rather quickly - particularly the collector's editions. Chocked to the brim, nook and crannies with anything and everything the zealous Starcraft fan has been pining for, it is indeed a treat well worth every penny.
Coming complete with:
- Wings of Liberty DVD covering the behind the scenes of Starcraft 2
- Collector's Edition Soundtrack
- Starcraft Comic Issue #0
- A Starcraft 2 Artbook with 176 pages of gorgeous illustrations
- An exclusive World of Warcraft in-game pet in the form of a Terran Baby Thor
- Exclusive DLC from Battle.net
- Jim Raynor's "Dog Tag" USB Drive contraining the original Starcraft and it's Brood War expansion
- And lastly, Starcraft 2: Wings of Liberty in delicious DVD format
So, there's some pretty cool stuff in there. I've posted the unboxing of the Collector's Edition that's shown up for me below and yes, I have a second one to give away to some lucky Starcraft fan out there.
How do you win? Simple. All you have to do is send an email to winstuff [at] kprojecteden [dot] com with the subject line "Starcraft 2" and containing the last word in the second paragraph of each of the related articles attached to this post (Under the article image where it says, "If you like..."). Easy, right?
I'll be taking emails for a week unitl 1pm CST on August 4th, 2010 at which time I'll select an email at random and as long as the answers are correct, you'll win you're very own Collector's Edition of Starcraft 2: Wings of Liberty. Additionally, I'll be throwing in a copy of Starcraft 2: Heaven's Devils. So, not a bad way to win some awesomeness.
A winner will be announced on Friday, August 6th and will have 24 hours to contact me via email to claim their prize so I can send it their way. Participation is sadly limited to the US, so my apologies to the rest of the world. I'll post a periodic reminder here as well as on my twitter. That being said, best of luck to everyone.
UPDATE: In an effort to make things a bit more interesting, I've decided to potentially toss another prize into the mix. How will that happen? If 25 people subscribe (See the top of the page near that picture of moi, 'subscribe' is right there), before Sunday, August 1, I'll announce on Monday an additional prize for the winner to receive on top of the Starcraft 2 Collector's Edition and the copy of Heaven's Devils. Trust me, you don't want to miss it.
UPDATE: (08.02.10): Thanks to everyone who successfully navigated the dangerous terrain of subscribing, I'll be following through on my end of the deal and throwing in an additional prize. Be sure to keep sending in those emails and best of luck to all.
UPDATE (08.04.10): As of 1pm my Starcraft 2 giveaway is now closed. As I said previously, I've been very impressed with the overall reception to it. I'm glad that such a community exists where a contest can be done in a civil and receptive manner and I truly do appreciate the participation. Best of luck to everyone who entered and I will announce a winner this coming Friday, so be sure to check back.
Final Disclaimer: While this would be obvious to most, I unfortunately have to spell it out for the comedians in the audience who think they're clever. Entries are limited to one email per day - if at the time of drawing I notice any sort of monkey business or attempt to cheat the contest, I do reserve the right to disqualify entries deemed fradulent by myself or my organized team of scientists.
