Beloved Youtube LPers (Let's Players) ChuggaaConroy and NintendoCapriSun, along with various other Youtubers, recently had their accounts suspended on false copyright claims.
According to Zelda Universe, the copyright claims are coming from false sources, for instance:
- One ChuggaConroy video was taken down by a user who claims ownership to Pokemon
- Another taken down for someone who claimed a copyright over ChuggaaConroy's voice
Considering the amount of people this is affecting, I would like to think that Youtube would respond quickly and rectify the situation, however, as of speaking, ChuggaaConroy's and NintendoCapriSun's accounts are still suspended. ChuggaaConroy's videos are still viewable if you can get to them directly, but his channel remains unviewable and NintendoCapriSun's videos are not viewable. NCS does have a blip.tv account though.
ChuggaaConroy has over 100,000 subscribers and over 15 million channel views. As far as I know, he is the most subscribed Let's Play channel on Youtube. You can check on the status of his account at www.youtube.com/user/chuggaaconroy.
Issues like these beg the question, although Youtube is the leading video website and #3 website in the world (according to Alexa.com), should everyone start using alternatives to Youtube? Sure, Youtube should tighten its flagging system to improve service, but does this mean Youtube should still be #1? What do you think? Leave a comment.

Who actually looks over these claims??? I mean no person would believe someone had a copyright on chuggaa's VOICE, execpt for chuggaa himself!
Ever since google took over YouTube, there's been copyright claims being thrown this way and that, whether by viacom or some dude who thinks he owns the world. Someone has to notice somethings wrong with how google is handling it's company!
What the heck the poor guy never did anything wrong all he did was just showing vids of games and presenting a walkthrough for them how stupid of youtube to do that youtube needs to get its head examined BRING CHUGGA BACK HE NEVER DID A SINGLE WRONG THING LEAVE THE POOR GUY ALONE!!!!

According to Zeldauniverse, they claimed that they owned chuggaconroys ACTUAL voice! PLUS, timothy bishop is nintendocaprisun's actual name, proving that they are also using false names too!

Youtube should be looking at the flagged videos for copyright if these situations can occur. But it would be annoying to go through every single flagged video. Still! YouTube should have seen the hype by now and maybe fix the mess that's been made.
I think that youtube's flagging system should require you to send them a letter personally so they can approve or deny them.
This is ridiculous and needs to be fixed.

We are a website who only cares to make money. 140k+ people are peeved because a few "Let's Play" channels was deleted? PSH! So what? They weren't making us any money. Youtube's approach is to give the benefit of the doubt to the copyright holder in cases of DMCA claims, which is fine. However, if that's going to be their stance, then, to file a claim, you should have to prove that you ARE the copyright holder. I think people should absolutely begin uploading their content to other hosts (as long as those hosts have a policy of not allowing random internet trolls to claim ownership of global brands without providing proof).
I doubt even 4chan would be this cruel. They normally don't feed on gamers, especially since that's a large draw to 4chan itself. I'm afraid these are the trolls that 4chan kicked.

There's no direct way to contact Youtube known. The only way to get something done about this problem is to get it on a big news site or newspaper or on the radio. It has to be made known by a great many people and have the vast vast majority of them angry about it, to make it happen.
ok, before it was just annoying, now i'm getting mad. i'm gone for a few days and all of a sudden i find out my favorite LPer is down. *chuckles* youtube is gonna get a lot about this one.
I think Youtube shouldn't be #1 because of this. I may not be affected since I don't do Lp's but I do AMVs (Anime Music Videos)
and still copyright is an issue. If Youtube only cares about money, I think everyone should move to the #2 website and see if they deserve to be #1 :P
I think that chuggaaconroy"s and nintendo cap resun are just vitums of hackers. The hackers did this besause they want attension. If YouTube doesn't correct the system they are going to lose alot of attension. We should stop watching YouTube if they don't fix it. We should start in another place but that is our last resort . let me clear this up for you im mad 4-chan is less cruel than this and the "owning his voice" means that he "suposedly" took a recording of the "victoms" voice and used it for his recording...
in other words youtube has made me mad in the past but this is beyond my own understanding unfortuently anothr lp'r has ben targeted and hit... i just hope that any victims of this scandal have ben rightfully put back...

Why not remove the flagging system? And then make it the only way you can get suspended is by sending the video to Youtube so they can look at it? Or remake the flagging system.
